About the author Juan Jose Arreola was born in ciudad Guzman, Mexico. Left school early to support his family. Worked many jobs. Discovered he liked acting and writing. Studied acting in Mexico City and France. Worked as an editor. Published in early 1940s.

About the author Author tends to NOT follow literary trends. Wrote non-realistic fiction –this was huge for his time. He is best known for his short fiction. Famous writing piece: Bestiaro.

Synopsis of short story The narrator of this story hopes to escape his troubles at the movies. He sits next to a distinguished “stranger” who seems to have an interest in the movie’s plot. Movie’s plot: A man (Daniel Brown)makes a pact with the devil.
