Beginnings: The Nile Which of the following MOST helped a civilization start in Egypt along the Nile River? It was easy to be a hunter gatherer because of the water and the types of wildlife to hunt The land was fertile because the river flooded every year, bringing silt on top of the surrounding desert. People liked the Egyptian Religion and so moved to live in the same cities as their gods, the Pharaohs. There were many valuable minerals such as Gold, Silver, and Iron near the river. Which of the following are true about the Nile River? Circle All Correct It is the longest river in the world It flows south and uphill towards the Mediterranean Sea It was a lifeline for Egyptians because it made life possible in the desert It flooded every year leaving behind silt which was very good for the soil

Writing for Knowledge: Hieroglyphics 1 How do modern people know so much about the Ancient Egyptians and their civilization? Because the Ancient Egyptians developed an advanced system of writing called Hieroglyphics and recorded their history both in stone carvings and on papyrus scrolls. Because when the Ancient Egyptians were conquered by the Greeks, they recorded a few important stories on the Rosetta Stone so that they would be remembered. Because descendants of the Ancient Egyptians still share the same culture and traditions today. Because drawings and pictures of life in Ancient Egypt were found in Caves in Eastern Africa. Egyptians wrote on which of these surfaces? Circle all Correct Papyrus Clay tablets Computer paper Wood slabs called Cartouche

Writing for Knowledge: Hieroglyphics 2 Scribes are so important to how much we know about the Ancient Egyptians because. Circle All Correct. They were the official writers, readers, and speakers for the Pharaoh and their laws and religion They learned to write the picture language Hieroglyphics, as well as how to make things to write on such as stone tablets and papyrus paper. They were the translators of the Rosetta Stone for present day Archaeologists They were artists that made drawings and pictures of life in Ancient Egypt in ancient caves The “Rosetta Stone” is important to Egyptologists MOSTLY because? It was the last or top stone placed on the top of the Great Pyramid. It was the only record of Queen Hatshepsut that survived after her death. It contains the complete history of all of Egypt in both the alphabet and Hieroglyphics. It was used to translate or decipher the written language of hieroglyphics using a single old Egyptian Law that was written in three languages.

They were the heads of the Government, the Army, as well as the Temples. They were seen this way because it was believed Pharaohs were descended from the God of the Sky, ______, who had a Falcon’s head. They were not the only god though, because Egyptian was a _________ religion and worshipped many gods. Because of their importance, Pharaohs were treated very specially when they died. Their bodies were ________ to last a very long time, and they were placed in giant Monuments that had their own tombs, called _________, to both protect and honor the Pharaoh’s memory. They needed their bodies to be able to live in the _______, which is the life after death. There, they met Osiris, the God of the ______, who would weigh their heart (not their brain!) and judge them.
