What is the purpose of the Illinois Tech Global Leaders Program? Empowering you to make a positive impact in your communities Connecting you to opportunities to explore STEM fields Supporting Chicago students (you!) as you pursue higher education Who here wants to go to college? And who here wants to make a real difference in YOUR communities, about things YOU care about? What is STEM?

2016-17 SCHOLARS We pride ourselves on diversity. In every sense of the word. We want to have unique students from all over the city, bringing unique perspectives. We want to hear YOUR voice. We want YOU to hear voices and perspectives that maybe you’ve never heard before. We want you to learn. AND, we especially care about getting a diverse group of teens together talking about STEM. STEM is a field of innovation and where job security lies, and yes, we think your voices in STEM and the way you apply STEM are going to push this country forward. A lot of especially women, minorities, and low-income students think STEM isn’t for them. But we think it is. It just needs your voice.

Collaborating to Impact and Create Opportunities in Our Communities During the summer, Scholars collaborated in teams to propose Leadership Grant Projects (LGPs) of their own design to be implemented over the course of the next academic year. A capstone of sorts, LGPs require Scholars to take a proactive structured approach to identifying and addressing real problems in the real world. Guided by Project Mentors (adult professionals), Scholars are empowered to promote positive change and create opportunities in their communities. Examples

It provides help that you cannot put a price on. DUE Feb. 22nd (Wednesday) APPLICATION PROCESS → Current sophomores (class of 2019) at Chicago-area high schools → Demonstrated strong performance (mostly As and Bs) and a willingness to challenge yourself academically A complete application includes: the Program Application (with essay) Online: bit.ly/GlobalLeadersApp2017 Official High School Transcript (with 2016 grades) [best option] OR Self-reported grades 2 Recommendations: Teacher + Adult of your choice [not a parent/guardian] Who’s going to wait until February 15th to request their transcript? There are several options on the online form for entering or uploading your transcripts. Easiest option: get your complete transcript from your counselor as soon as it’s available in January, upload that/ Applicants should PLAN AHEAD and obtain the transcript and recommendation forms (each in a signed and sealed envelope) PRIOR to the deadline. These materials should be mailed or delivered in ONE packet to the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy office. [Point out the DUE TO APPLICANT line on the Recommendation Forms] Juniors in the 2013-14 cohort of IIT Boeing Scholars do not have to re-apply by the means described above, but will be asked to completed a shorter re-application form, interview, and submit updated transcripts.
