SOU CAMPUS & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST POSITION OPEN! THOUGHT-PROVOKING CLASSES OFFERED SUMMER & FALL 2017! Haven’t quite nailed down your summer or fall term schedule yet? Consider some of the following courses! SUMMER: GSWS 399: Behind the Wire – Women in US Prisons. CRN 8843, 1 credit, Monday and Wednesday, 6/26 and 6/28, 5-9:50pm. Learn how history, laws, culture and systems of oppression impact women in prison. FALL: UGS 299: Diversity Dialogues. 3 credits, Mondays, 3:30-6:20, CRN 2255. Engage experientially and intellectually with issues of difference, diversity, social justice, and alliance building! UGS 299: Major and Career Exploration. 2 credits, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-5:20pm, CRN 2252. Examine your strengths and passions, and utilize strategies to help you with major and career decision making! The Campus and Community Engagement Specialist will increase students’ educational success by improving SOU’s civic engagement activities and practices, and building capacity to reduce barriers to campus and community engagement for economically disadvantaged students and students of color. In addition, the VISTA will plan and implement high-quality volunteer projects to engage the SOU community in anti-poverty community service, and coordinate trainings and events to educate students around equity and social justice topics.
