Overview What are the State Resource Locators? When were they created? Who might find them useful? Where on the web can you find them? How can you use them?

What? The State Resource Locators (SRLs) provide state-by-state environmental compliance information, including guides to the regulations links to permit forms when available state contacts additional resources

What? (cont’d.) Each SRL covers a specific topic. SRLs are now available for: Land and Water Stormwater (Construction) Stormwater (Industrial) Endangered Species Wetlands TMDL Waste RCRA Hazardous Waste RCRA Universal Waste Construc. & Demol. Waste Regulated Medical Waste Air Open burning, dust Pollutants and Toxics Lead Paint Mercury Asbestos Health and Safety Worker safety (OSHA) Food processing General State Regulations

When? The project began in 1998 with an overall guide to state environmental regulations. Indexed state regulatory information was only available by subscription from private providers – wanted to provide publicly accessible state information in a format that would enable web-based features. Original idea was to encourage states to include and maintain XML markup on their sites. Still waiting.

When? (cont’d.) As new compliance assistance centers were developed for specific sectors, new state tools were developed for topics relevant to sectors. Result was a wealth of information, but in a wide variety of formats. In 2005, Compliance Assistance Platform began to develop uniform presentation template for all state tools, and to make data available to other compliance assistance providers.

How? As a stand-alone resource: Wherever your compliance assistance text says something like “These are federal regulations – please be aware that other restrictions may apply in your state,” provide a link to the relevant SRL. As a data source: RSS feeds are now available You use the data in your own context The Platform maintains it for you
