Transportation Elite Familiarisation – Thursday 1st March - Shuttles will be arranged from official hotels to the race village departing 1hr before the familiarisation at 9:30am. Return shuttles from the race village to the official hotels will run from 12:30-13:00 Race Day – Friday 2 March - Shuttles will be arranged from official hotels to the race village departing 11:30. Return shuttles from the race village to the official hotels will run from the end of the event

Access to the Venue

Check-in Procedures Bike check – on entering Athletes’ Lounge area Refer to 5.2 in competition rules - Helmet check - Handlebars with clip-ons - Bike frame - Saddle position (-5cm≤ Men -2cm≤ Women) exceptions here: http://www.triathlon.org/uploads/docs/itu_sport_elite_bike_saddle_rule_exceptions_updated_20170202.pdf - Wheels (non authorized UCI wheels rule) Spare wheels to be checked in & taken to wheel station by the coach - Disc brakes are now legal and spare wheels with disc brakes may be placed at the team wheel station however they are not allowed in the neutral wheel station - Technological fraud check

Check-in Procedures Athletes’ Lounge Uniform and gear check (name, country, logos, ITU logo, zippers, race caps) – photos will be taken of each uniform. Wearing a different uniform during the race = DSQ Body marking check (both arms and both legs, 33 vs ) Swim cap distribution Athletes wishing to wear a swim cap under the ITU cap must bring it for inspection at this check in (NOTE: only plain non-branded caps allowed) Timing chip distribution (2 timing chips, one for each ankle) 33

Check-in Procedures Transition Area Helmet on bike – Ensure it is unfastened in transition. Glasses on bike Water bottles on bike Running shoes go outside your box Return your non-competition gear to the Athletes’ Lounge (use your numbered bag drop sticker) These bags will be moved into the recovery area (Men)

Check-in Procedures Bike Equipment Approval for any addition/modification of equipment to the bike, MUST be obtained from the Head Referee up to 10 minutes after the end of the Athletes’ Briefing. A Bike Mechanic will be available during check in.

The Course Swim Bike Run 1 lap of 750 metres 5 laps of 4.12 kms

The Course

Pre-start Procedure Athletes’ Introduction 25 minutes before your start, you will be called to leave the Athletes Lounge, following the technical officials instructions, towards the prestart area under the Viceroy hotel (keep in mind that this takes 5 minutes walking) The area will be supplied with water, chairs, etc.; From that area, you can also practise the swim start, and go for swim warm up Please leave any clothing towels etc in the numbered bags. These bags will be returned to the athletes lounge/recovery area When you are introduced, jog to the swim start platform Quickly select your start position After selecting your position, stay behind the line Blocking more than one position = DSQ

Start Procedure Athletes in Position The start can be given any time after the Head Referee announces “On Your Mark!” Electronic Horn Blast The race starts Athletes not moving forward from the start line = 10 second penalty in TA1 Delayed start athletes Athlete will move forward on the call of the designated official

False Start Procedure False start with many athletes Several horn blasts Kayaks move in front of you Everyone goes back to his/her original start spot Valid start with early starters If a few athletes start before the horn and everyone else starts with the horn, the false starter(s) will receive a 10 second penalty in TA1. During the time penalty, the athlete(s) many NOT touch any equipment.

Swim Conduct Definition from the ITU CR §4.1: e.) Athletes may sportingly maintain their own space in the water: (i) Where athletes make accidental contact in the swim and then immediately afterwards move apart no penalty will be incurred; (ii) Where athletes make contact in the swim, and an athlete continues to impede the progress of the other athlete without moving apart, this action will result in a time penalty; (iii) Where athletes deliberately target another athlete to impede their progress, gain unfair advantage and potentially cause harm will result in disqualification and may be reported to ITU Arbitration Tribunal for potential suspension or expulsion.

Swim Conduct Definition from the ITU CR §4.1: There will be additional boats and Technical officials deployed on the swim course to monitor athlete’s behaviour in this respect . Infringements will be recorded and appropriate action will be taken dependent on the rules definition from the previous slide . Please respect your fellow competitors and keep the race fair.

Post-race Procedures Anti-doping Control Team Medical Access Photo ID is REQUIRED for every athlete that is selected for testing Team Medical Access Only accredited team medical personnel will be permitted to enter the medical tent, after receiving the ITU Medical Delegate’s permission Each National Federation is permitted to have 1 team medical accreditation. Team doctors should register with the ITU Medical Delegate (Dr. Charl Carstens)

Ambush Marketing Rule Ambush marketing is defined as: “Deliberately using the opportunity of live television and media photographers to acquire additional exposure for your sponsor product, apparel or brand.” The consequence for this behavior is that the athlete will immediately forfeit their prize money for that event, if any. Please follow the ambush marketing rule

Coaches’ Areas Coaches wristbands will only be distributed to those coaches who’s National Federations registered them through the on-line system They will have access to: The Athletes’ Lounge and Post-recovery Area Behind the start area Next to the swim exit Media lane (in front grandstands)

Measurement of the course One coach per NF can have access to the elite run course between 14:40 and 15:20 on Friday for measuring the course, escorted by the Chief Run Official Vests will be provided by the LOC. Please be at the Elite athletes’ lounge by 14:35 on Friday Registration is immediately after this Briefing on exit at the coaches’ accreditation distribution desk.

Notes There will be no warming up on the bike course as the roads will be in use for other events / logistics purposes Prize money will be wire transferred to the athletes by ITU following the event.

TV post race production Go Pro cameras may be placed on two athletes bikes Images will be used on the post race production, with credit on the athlete carrying the camera The camera will be mounted at the front or the back of the bike Athletes will be selected by the ITU

Athletes Agreement There has been a change in the procedure of filling the Athlete’s Agreement. All Athletes will have to fill in their data on their Admin page of the ITU Website before competing on their first event, or if there is any change. If you need logins please contact webmaster@triathlon.org Following the briefing you will sign the Agreement before taking your race package, that does not include the section with detailed information. The reason for this change is to integrate the information of the athletes to the same database – which is not public – and to avoid any missing or inaccurate information.
