Degrade: to lower in grade, rank, or status; demote

degrade When I failed the test, my “friend” degraded me by calling me stupido. After being falsely accused of sexual harassment, the colonel did not wish to degrade himself by commenting on the matter.

Gradual-adj. moving by steps of degrees

Gradual: adj. Although I wanted to lose weight over night, but it was a gradual process taking much time.
