Birth Place December 3, 1895 in Vienna, Austria Youngest of six children Distant from her siblings Leaned towards father (Sigmund)

Childhood Father (Sigmund) favored Anna and sister Sophie Not close to her mother, preferring the nurse instead Suffered from depression and chronic eating disorders Constant battle with Mother and sister, Sophie Frequently sent away to “camp” during the summer

Late Adolescence/Adulthood Studied education in 1910 from Cottage Lyceum, Vienna Started being analyzed by father in 1918, lead to his findings and presentation titled “The Relation of Beating Fantasies to a Daydream” Published her work on Defense Mechanisms

Anna, the Teacher and Founder Began teaching at Cottage Lyeceum Became a member of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Training Institute society Created Hampstead War nursery with live-in work partner, and “friend”, Dorothy Burlingham Family fled Austria (1938) for England due to the Nazi invasion

Hampstead War Nursery Nursery provided refuge for over 100 children who were homeless due to the bombings of WWII

Career- Hampstead Clinic Considered one of the founders of childhood psychoanalysis Created and directed Hampstead Child Therapy Course and Clinic (1952-1982)
