Contact with other cultures Notable events King Tang overthrew Jie, Xia’s last emperor, at the beginning of the Shang reign. Dynasty ended when King Zhou was defeated by the tribe of Zhou. Contact with other cultures The Shang dynasty’s entire existence took place along the Yellow River, with the capital based in Yin. The dynasty was mainly isolated from the rest of the world.
