Lab Safety
General Lab Rules Follow all instructions carefully. Know where the eye wash, fire blanket, shower and fire extinguisher are. Never eat or drink in lab. Never run, push engage in horseplay or practical jokes. Report all accidents and injuries to me. Dispose of chemicals and used matches as I instruct.
Dress properly for the laboratory. Long sleeves should be rolled up. Don’t where loose-fitting sleeves or bulky outerwear. Tie back long hair. Wear safety goggles when using dangerous chemicals, hot liquids or burners.
Fire Be extra careful when dealing with heat or fire: Never leave a lit Bunsen burner or any hot object unattended. Never reach over an exposed flame. Use tongs or pot holders to handle hot lab equipment.
Chemicals Use care working with chemicals: Never taste or touch substances in the lab without specific instruction. Use materials only from containers that are properly labeled. Never smell anything without specific instructions. Wash hands after using chemicals Notify me of any spills.
Lab equipment Use care working with lab equipment: Do not use chipped or cracked glassware. Do not pick up broken glass with your hand. Use care in handling sharp objects. Only use heat treated “Pyrex or Kimax” glassware if you are using heat or flame.
