National Merit Scholarship Corporation Has Named Finalists in the 2017 Competition Grissom High School (15) Helen D'Agostino, Camryn Edwards, Jonathon Hubbert, Nicholas Jones, Alice Kim, Joelle Kim, Anjali Mahapatra, Michael McMeen, Jenny Shen, Matthew Shustack Jarrod Stuart, Afura Taylor, Shengqing Wang Joseph Westra, Aaron Zhai Huntsville High School (3) Mark Simmons, Jewel Smith, Emma Stowe New Century Technology High School (2) Cody Holland and Samuel Thompson *Need a slide with the names by schools…….might be nice to include a small school logo if it fits.

2017 National Merit Finalists Are the Most We’ve Had in the Last Six Years

Many Colleges Offer Scholarship Packages to National Merit Finalists and Semifinalists Sample scholarship packages from The University of Alabama (www.ua.edu) National Merit Semifinalist Package - $41,800 over four years Value of tuition for four years or eight semesters National Merit Finalist Package – Approximately $78,000 over five years Value of tuition for up to five years (can be used for graduate school) One year of on-campus housing A $3,500 per year stipend for four years One-time allowance of $2,000 for summer research or international study Technology Enrichment Allowance $1000

Some Selective Colleges Offer Smaller Scholarships for National Merit Finalist Standing Examples: Vanderbilt University - $2,000 Emory University - $2,000 Additional impact for these schools Admission decisions have not yet been released or admission has been deferred Strengthens the student’s application at these colleges

There Are Additional Scholarship Opportunities Available for National Merit Finalists Corporate Scholarships - Varying amounts and requirements - Sponsored by specific businesses - Awards announced in late April National Merit Scholarship Corporation Scholarships $2,500 scholarships Awards announced in May
