Year 7 Maths What we offer Where to get information Supporting your daughter

Year 7 mathematics course Mixed ability classes Common assessments Additional support in the classroom No calculators Super Maths/Science – one teacher, 5 x75 min lessons a week Purposeful Teaching of Maths Similar in year 8 followed by a few more options in Yr 9 and Yr 10

Where to get information Students will have homework in their diaries and worksheets in their maths work book This information is published on the portal You can use this to check how your daughter is going with homework Assessment outcomes are also published on the portal Feel free to email their teachers if you have questions

How you can help Tables: assumed knowledge for year 7 Work through one set of tables per week/fortnight Revision at home/around the house The goal is to have automatic recall of multiplication tables by mid-year Homework: approximately 20 minutes of homework on the days when they have a maths lesson

Supervising maths homework When helping your daughter, use leading questions Can you find a similar question you did in class or a worked example in the text book? What do you think you do next? If you had to guess the next step, what would you do? Have you read the question more than once? What did you learn from that mistake? Have you checked the answer?

The purpose of this style of questioning is to give your daughter strategies for answering her own questions and feeling confident in her own abilities The trick is that you don’t have to know what they are doing, you just have to ask the right questions so they can explain their thinking to you
