At the end of this presentation, the learner will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the different symptoms of ADHD

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder Symptoms of ADHD: Inattentive Hyperactive Impulsive Indecisive

Symptoms of INATTENTION include: DISTRACTION DAYDREAMING DIFFICULTY CONCENTRATING UNABLE TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS DIFFICULTY PROCESSING INFORMATION STRUGGLE WITH INSTRUCTIONS.

Children who are inattentive say: "Any sound in class bothers me" "My mind sometimes goes on a road trip" "It's like I have ten TV channels in my head and I don't know which one to watch."

Symptoms of HYPERACTIVITY include: FIDGET AND SQUIRM TALKATIVE CONSTANTLY IN MOTION DIFFICULTY WITH QUIET ACTIVITIES

Kids who are indecisive say: "It's like my mind gets stuck when I'm trying to figure something out." "People are always telling me to hurry up and decide." "Sometimes I won't make a choice because I can't figure out which one is perfect."

Why Do Some Kids Have ADHD? Studies suggest that ADHD results from a combination of factors like: GENES ENVIRONMENT

A Final Note As we can see ADHD is challenging, but as teachers we can help children modify problem behaviors, succeed in school, and get along with others. We can work with parents to make sure their child is getting the appropriate help in school.
