Challenge Two! Let’s look at the vertical progression of our Math standards! Each group has eight cards. Place the cards in order from Kindergarten standard to eighth grade standard.

Let’s reflect… Our opening accessed prior knowledge. What did you know? (Fourth Grade) What did you learn? (Third Grade) What are your next steps? (Kindergarten)

And now the work session begins… Math Shifts! Challenge Three- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueZ6tvqhk8U&feature=related

Challenge Four Working in your teams, you are going to RACE through the practice set of math problems. The problems start with a kindergarten set and advance to fifth grade!

Challenge Five The Reading Relay! Using the exemplary excerpt, develop FIVE text dependent questions.

Challenge Six Let’s look at literacy integration in social studies with a chalk talk!

Chalk Talk is a silent way to reflect, generate ideas, check on learning, develop projects, or solve problems. It can be used productively with any group—students, faculty, workshop participants, committees. Because it is done completely in silence, it gives groups a change of pace and encourages thoughtful contemplation. It can be an unforgettable experience.

Our focus is on reflection and standards understanding Our focus is on reflection and standards understanding. Read and annotate Schell’s article, “Why Integrate Literacy and Social Studies.” Respond to the central question:

How can you integrate literacy within your social studies and science classrooms?

Let’s reflect… Our work session was designed to deepen common core understanding. What did you know? (First Grade) What did you learn? (Second Grade) What are your next steps? (Third Grade)

Our Closing! The CCGPS Egg Hunt!

Our Closing! Balloon Pop!

Our Closing! Get in the Hot Seat!
