Graphing

Let’s review previous vocabulary .

Independent Variable (n) the one variable you change in the experiment. Dependent Variable (n) The variable that is being measured in your experiment cause Effect _____ variable

Observation (n) recognizing and noticing facts.

Inquiry (n) the act of inquiring or of seeking information by questioning; interrogation.

line graph n. Shows information that is connected in some way. Ex: Growth of a plant

Bar Graphs Bar graphs are often used for qualitative observations. The lengths of the bars on a bar graph are used to represent and compare data.

double bar graph n. used to compare data between 2 different things.

Circle Graphs Or pie graph Circle graphs show percentages of a whole. The entire circle is equal to 100% of the data.

stem and leaf plot n. Summarizes the distribution of data.

From the graph, infer what kind of animal Species Y is. Explain. Storm Check 1:At which of the following times of the day Species Y likely to be most active? From the graph, infer what kind of animal Species Y is. Explain.

What could you conclude from the data? Explain.

Storm check 1- Based on the observations, what can you conclude about the rabbits and the foxes? Storm check 2- Infer what could happen to the population of the foxes and the rabbits.

Brown 5 Black 7 Blonde 6 Red 2 Create a graph to represent the data. Don't forget to label the horizontal and vertical axis.

Storm checks 9-8-15 Write a testable hypothesis for the following question. How does the amount of daylight affect how many eggs are laid by a chicken? 1. Name any equipment( materials ) that you use in the science lab for doing experiments. Write 2 testable hypothesis and mention their dependent and independent variables.

2. From the graph, infer what kind of animal Species Y is. Explain. Storm checks 9-8-15 2. From the graph, infer what kind of animal Species Y is. Explain. 1. At which of the following times of the day is Species Y likely to be most active? (Use slide # 10) 3. What type of graph would be most appropriate for charting the change in height of a pea plant as time passes? Explain

Storm checks 9-9-15 2. What type of graph would be most appropriate for comparing the number of births of females and males among different types of animals at the zoo? 1. Explain why it is important to label a graph completely. Which variables goes on x and Y axis ? ( Dependent / Independent ) 3. Create a graph using the type of graph in SC#2. Make up your own data. 4. What could you conclude from the data? Explain. (Use slide #11)

Storm checks 9-10-15 2. Using the same picture, infer what could happen to the population of the foxes and the rabbits. 1. Based on the observations, what can you conclude? (Use slide #12) 3. Create a graph. (Use slide #13) 4. Explain a situation when you would use a pie chart. What other type of graph can be used for the same situation ?

SCIENTIFIC METHOD REVIEW List the 6 steps of the scientific method. What is a hypothesis? How should all hypothesis be written? What is the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable? Explain what a control is. Write a testable hypothesis for the following questions. How does the amount of daylight affect how many eggs are laid by a chicken? How does room temperature affect student performance?
