Ellis County College Fair Pre-Registration Instructions: Handout Go to www.gotocollegefairs.com Click "Students Register Now" Select "Texas" as your state Check "TACRAO" to register (be sure to scroll down & select the icon that includes the September 20, 2017 date. Individual Dallas area Fairs not listed) Click “Register Now” Complete the requested participant information. Print your personal barcode or take a screen shot of your personal bar code. Take your printed barcode, or screen shot to the Ellis County College Fair.

Distinguished Level of Achievement One Math credit must be Algebra II Student must earn Distinguished Level of Achievement to be eligible for top 10% automatic college admission Double check with your college to see if they require the DLA for admissions

Performance Acknowledgements- Awarded for Outstanding Performance in college courses- 12hours with B or higher or Associate Degree in bilingualism- 3+LOTE courses & Eng courses with B or higher on AP tests before your senior year- score of 3 or higher for certain scores on AP, PSAT, Aspire, SAT, or ACT tests for earning a certification or license- Cosmo, Weld, Microsoft Office, etc.

Pass / Fail Forms Form must be submitted by the end of the 1st six weeks of each semester. The change will not show until the 2nd six weeks of each semester. Cannot be used for courses that are required for graduation or for your Endorsement. Talk to your guidance counselor for advice about Pass/ Fail forms!

KNOW THE ADMISSIONS requirements FOR THE COLLEGE YOU WANT TO ATTEND #1- Go to undergraduate freshman admissions on your college’s website. #2- Determine the SAT or ACT score required as determined by your rank and quartile (one reason why your grades are so important!) #3 - Does your school require certain high school courses?

College ADMISSIONS requirements Apply to the college - www.applytexas.org or commonapp.org School Specific Supplements – essays etc. Do even if says optional. Recommendations – Teacher/Counselor/Administrator use Brag Sheet (slide) if needed Official Transcript – fill out request form (slide) and give to Registrar. Transcripts can be sent electronically to most public colleges, otherwise they are mailed Standardized Test Scores – most schools require you to send your scores through SAT or ACT websites (first 4 are free) Application Fees – school specific instructions/in some cases fees may be waived if you used a SAT/ACT fee waiver or for financial reasons Additional Testing - TSI

TSI- Texas Success Initiative for College Course Enrollment Test required by all public Texas colleges to determine if students are ready to enroll in college level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and math.  High School students must be TSI complete to enroll in the related dual credit college courses (TSI Reading for reading based courses like USH, TSI Writing for writing based courses like English, and TSI Math for college math courses).  College students who are not TSI complete will take developmental courses.  Always check with your college to make sure you are TSI complete. TSI is given at ROHS on certain Saturdays throughout the year- $10 per section and sign up in front of the counseling office Navarro College administers TSI every day- $35 Info & prep at https://accuplacerpractice.collegeboard.org

TSI- WAIVER OR EXEMPTION?  WAIVERS can only be used in 11th & 12th grades.  STAAR- 4000+ on Eng 2 EOC will WAIVE the TSI Read & Write, and 4000+ on Algebra 1 EOC will WAIVE the TSI math section. ASPIRE- 435+ on English section will WAIVE the TSI Read & Write, and 431+ on math section will WAIVE the TSI math section. PSAT- 480+ on EBRW section will WAIVE the TSI Read & Write, and 530+ on math section will WAIVE the TSI math section. EXEMPTION  ACT- 23+ Composite with a minimum of 19 on English section to EXEMPT the TSI Reading & Writing and a 19+ on ACT math section will EXEMPT the TSI math section. SAT- 480+ on EBRW section to EXEMPT the TSI Reading & Writing and 530+ on SAT math section will EXEMPT the TSI math section. EXEMPTIONS are good for 5 years.  9th & 10th graders are required to take and pass the TSI reading & writing sections before enrollment in college courses

Dual Credit College level workload Must take the TSI/or may be exempt with STAAR EOC scores Parent Night in late January Student responsible for tuition, fees, books & supplies Will register for these in the Spring Check with the college you want to attend to find out if they accept the dual credit classes you want to take Private and out-of-state especially

Planning a college visit? Juniors & Seniors allowed 2 per year. This document must be completed and brought to attendance 48 hours before trip. Get proof that you visited college
