Introduction

Data Center Challenges Major-Everyday challenges faced by IT managers with Data centers How fast can I recover the data center during disaster? How can I rely on my replication? How can I recover a particular version at any time from replicated data? Exponential data growth.

Back to Business in less than 60 seconds vembu offers industry best RTO which is less than 15 minutes. Failover to the replicated VM. Failback to the production host. Network Mapping and IP-Re Mapping.

Why Vembu VMBackup ? Challenges Solution Backing up a Virtual & Physical server is typically more expensive and difficult to manage. As we all know that it requires a fundamentally different approach. Solution Vembu VMBackup is exclusively designed for Virtual & Physical Environments by the experts in the industry. Vembu fills a purpose here to be the best of breed technology in providing manageable solution at affordable cost for both physical and virtual servers along with the applications that resides in the system and with optional Cloud Disaster Recovery.

Architecture

Architecture - VM Replication vCenter Server If an organization is not equipped to support true business continuity following any unplanned downtime, chances are there for a competitor. Vembu VMBackup agent will communicate with VMware ESXi production storage and replicate the VM data to another ESXi host. Vembu VMBackup ensures application aware replication process. Supports VM Failover, Failback, Network Mapping and IP Remapping.

Replication Transport Modes

Replication Transport Modes Vembu VMBackup agent transfers the VM data through different modes. Based on the agent installation and VMware environment, Vembu VMBackup agent automatically choose any one of following transport mode. Direct SAN Mode Hot-Add Mode Network Mode[NBD] You can configure the Vembu VMBackup agent to use any one of above mode permanently

Direct SAN Transport Mode DataStore DataStore SAN Vembu VMBackup agent should have access to the SAN. It works on both physical server/FC or VM/iSCSI. Vembu VMBackup agent read the data directly which needs to be replicated from SAN and send them to Target host.

Hot-Add Transport Mode DataStore DataStore Vembu VMBackup agent needs to be installed on anyone of the Windows VM or you may dedicate a VM to enable Hot-Add transport mode. The virtual disk of the VM which needs to be replicated can be directly attached to the Vembu VMBackup agent VM Vembu VMBackup agent will read the attached disks and send the data to DR host

Network Transport Mode[NBD] 1 5 4 2 3 DataStore vCenter Server Vembu VMBackup agent can be installed on a physical or virtual machine. ESXi hosts reads and sends VM data to Vembu VMBackup agent which then send the data to DR host. Data transmission between ESXi host and Vembu VMBackup agent is made via TCP/IP connection. The data transfer speed will be lower than other two modes.

Disaster Recovery Scenarios

Replica Failover Replica VMs will auto start on DR Host, in case of any failure or corruption in production setup Vembu VMBackup will maintain a temporary state for failover VM’s to keep the changes after starting the replica VMs You can either failover a VM temporarily or permanently

Replica FailBack Failback to the production host to avoid resource overhead in DR host Failback to an entirely new host/location to get a new and fresh VM to continue your business from a new location You can either Undo Failback or Commit Failback

Network Mapping Mapping your production host network with the DR host network to avoid manual work while you are in disaster. Reducing the downtime.

IP Re-Mapping Vembu VMBackup will reconfigure the IP for VM’s while doing Failover, based on the IP Remapping rules You can create multiple IP Mapping rules per replication job

Advantages of VMware Replication Agentless VM Replication Host level VMware replication designed to protect vSphere and vCenter environments using VMware vStorage APIs (VADP) CBT enabled incremental data transfer using VMware VADP Application-aware image processing for Microsoft application VMs VMware Hot-Add and SAN transport mode for LAN free data transfer
