IT basics Directory Services (DS) account/username Email Wi-Fi String of letters and numbers, such as gkb14178 Use it to log in to most systems at Strathclyde – including those that hold your personal information! Email Use Outlook on any University computer Go to nemo.strath.ac.uk on other devices We can help you get your email on your phone Wi-Fi Use eduroam You’ll have to set things up with strathwifisetup first See www.strath.ac.uk/it/wifi for more Never share your DS password – it gives access to computer systems including ones that hold your personal info You can access your Strathclyde email wherever you have an internet connection. The staff email service is called NEMO. We can help you get your email on your phone. Network drives: University departments can host their shared data on centrally-managed servers and storage. This facility is provided by IT Services, hosted on highly-resilient, dual-sited hardware. It is backed up nightly, and can be restored on request. Users can also restore their data themselves, within certain limits, from their own PC. Software Download: Campus agreements allow staff access to download software to PCs. University Encryption Policy, Information Security Policy and Security for mobile devices: These are policies which aims to ensure that both individuals and the University comply with legal requirements and are protected from risks such as identity theft and other forms of cyber-crime. You must provide a secure login/password any University-owned laptops, tablets, phones and encrypt USB devices (i.e. USB drives). However, if you use your own devices to hold any University-owned information that is confidential, sensitive, personal or of commercial value, you must also encrypt that information. All mobile devices connected to the University must have appropriate levels of security in place. * For mobile devices, a complex password must be applied to the device if connection is setup to eduroam. * Set your device up to wipe the content if the wrong code is entered more than ten times. * Set your device up to be able to remote wipe. This can normally be done through your service provider. For full information refer to the web link at the end of the presentation www.strath.ac.uk/it/security/encryption/ If your mobile device is lost or stolen, and you have no password or encryption assigned but access University systems, contact the IS Helpdesk immediately to have your password changed. It is potentially your personal data that will be affected too. * Information security policy, endorsed by DCSC (Digital Campus Sub Committee) can be found here: http://www.strath.ac.uk/staff/policies/informationsecurity/ Working Remotely: Information Services provides facilities to enable staff and students to work remotely, supporting the University's goals for flexible working. The vast majority of services provided by the University are accessible via the web, making them potentially available to users from any location. Access to such services is controlled by authentication, ordinarily with the DS username and password credentials. (e.g. Email, Myplace, Webdrive, Pegasus, PURE, pFACT, PECOS, Teledir.) Remote Access, using VPN and specific pc setup, may be configured for your own pc where resources are ONLY available on your your pc. There is also available licenced software for download to your pc. http://pegasus.strath.ac.uk/forward/login/?returnURL=/softdistr/control/availProductsPage The University has signed up to the Microsoft Campus Agreement which gives the opportunity to run a selection of software on all University-owned PCs and Macs for the duration of the Agreement and also for qualifying staff (i.e. in general terms, all categories on the central payroll - except anyone working less than 200 hours per year) to use them on their home computers for University work.

Our opening times change throughout the year – keep a check on our website or Twitter account You all have a Library account already. Start with a SUPrimo search – you can log in from there if you need to. If you’d like a Library card you need to fill out a quick form and show us some ID – it doesn’t take long, and you can fill in the form online.
