Ancient Rome By Paola De La Mora

Geography Ancient Rome began in the eighth century B.C., it grew from a small town on central Italy’s Tiber River into an empire that at its peak encompassed most of continental Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, northern Africa, and the Mediterranean islands.

Religion The Romans believed in many different gods and goddesses. Romans didn't tend to think that only their gods were the right ones. They heard stories of Greek gods and loved them, they renamed all the gods except for Apollo, kept the myths the same, and adopted all of them. The Pontifex Maximus was the high priest of the College of Pontiffs, this was the most important position in the ancient Roman religion. Beginning with Augustus, the early Roman Republic gradually became politicized. The Roman Empire became Christian after the emperor Constantine the Great said he had had a sign from the god of the Christians in a dream in the night before he had an important battle. Emperor Constantine won this battle and thereafter showed his gratitude to the Christian god by turning his entire empire over to this new religion

achievements Roman Army Roman Art and Literature Roman Architecture The Roman Empire was powerful, due to its strong military tactics. Roman military policies helped to expand the empire. Roman Art and Literature The Romans developed the alphabets that are widely used in all the European languages, including English. They also developed Roman numerals, which are used today by many to highlight important document points. Roman Architecture The ancient Romans were great architects and builders. They invented the technology for concrete, aqueducts, arches and roads Roman Laws The ancient Romans formulated many of the laws that most countries use even today, for example: "A person is innocent until proven guilty".

politics Political evolution of Ancient Rome First, Rome was feudal state. The ruling class was a noble class. Political power comes from land. About 509 BC last king Tarquinius Superbus was defeated by revolution, and Rome started to be populistic republic. In populistic states political power comes from cities. About 499 BC there was the Second Secession, Since then Rome was democracy with two strong political parties: plebeians, and patricians. Democratic system usually emerges when most of the country population live in cities Ancient Rome was the first democratic state.

economics Some Romans were farmers. They grew wheat, barley, grapes, olives, apples, onions, and celery. They sold what they grew in markets in towns and bought food from markets to eat. People in Rome also paid taxes, some farmers instead of paying everything in money they also paid in food. Romans also traded with other people close by.

Social structure Social structure is the way people are organized when it comes to what kind of people they are in the economy. Rulers, nobility, priests and wealthy land owners are the upper class. Traders, artisans, and Farmers are the middle class. Slaves are the lower class.

Rome quick facts Rome began as a small village around 753 B. C. Ancient Romans spoke Latin, which has influenced many of today’s languages that include French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. First Romans lived on Palatine, They were farmers. According to legend, Rome was founded by Remus and Romulus, Romulus killed Remus and named the city after himself. Roman religion was heavily borrowed from the neighboring Greeks. Most Roman gods and goddesses are actually just Romanized versions of Greek gods and goddesses. Rome became a republic in 509 B.C.

ESSAY Ancient Rome is fascinating. It started as a little city that became the greatest empires. According to roman legend, Rome was found in 753 B.C. Ancient romans were wise people, they were hungry to grow and evolve positively, at its peak his empire encompassed most of continental Europe, Brittan, much of western Asia, northern Africa, and the Mediterranean islands. Also they were great workers, they built aqueducts and roads. Romans got their gods from other cultures like the Greeks, they used to think that any other god that they hear were protecting them, and as soon as they found them they built temples for them. Rome had a powerful army, they were very organized, and their army is one of their reasons for expansion. They also developed the alphabet and the roman numerals that we use at the time.
