The Odyssey Books 4-6 Nayeli Diaz, Morgan McFadden, Josette Rodriguez, Daniel Nonaka, Fernanda Padilla

Book Four Menelaus tells Telemakhos that Odysseus worked the hardest, but suffered more than anyone. Menelaus, Helen, and guests retell stories from the Trojan War. LitCharts points out that Helen used cunning tricks like Odysseus during the war, and uses cunning tricks again to help the men forget about their sadness.

Menelaus retells the story of how Eidothea disguised him and other men as seals to hide from Proteus After Penelope hears that Telemakhos left to find his father and that her suitors plan to kill her son, she prays to Athena.

Penelope’s suitors plan to assault and murder Telemakhos to marry her without him in the way.

Book 5 Zeus sends Hermes to tell Odysseus to leave from Kalypso’s island. Kalypso does not want Odysseus to leave her and tries to convince Hermes to let Odysseus stay. Kalypso allows Odysseus to leave the island, and helps him build a raft for his travels.

Poseidon tries to drown Odysseus with a storm on the ocean. Ino gives Odysseus her veil to help keep him afloat as he swims to shore. Athena helps Odysseus to shore and helps him get settled on the island that he is to stay on.

Book 6 At Skheria Island, Nausikaa daughter of Alkinoos, goes down by the river with her maids to wash clothes. Odysseus soons wakes up from his sleep at Skheria Island from the screams of the princess and maids. Odysseus meets Nausikaa and tells her what he has been through the last twenty days. Nausikaa orders her maids to bathe him, feed him, and clothe him. Nausikaa takes Odysseus with her, back to the town and to meet the Phaiakians. Nausikaa tells Odysseus the plan to be able to meet her mother, and not be a center of attention throughout the town.

Predictions for the Odyssey With the help of Athena, Odysseus will get home to his family. Odysseus will come home and reunite with his family, but Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, will be married by the time Odysseus returns home. Poseidon will forgive Odysseus for his actions. Nausikaa will continue to love Odysseus.
