Surviving Roverway #WylieSurviveTT4RW18NL Wylie’s Top Tips Surviving Roverway #WylieSurviveTT4RW18NL

1. Understand your Tanning Time Your skin reaches a tanning cut-off point when it physically can't produce any more melanin, the tanning pigment, so it's pointless to lounge by the pool all day. "Everyone has their own melanin cut-off, typically two to three hours or much less if you have fair skin" Dr Nick Lowe. After this you're just subjecting your skin to the risk of UV damage. (http://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/a27297/how-to-get-the-best-safe-tan/)

2. Have Fun! Make the most of your time at Roverway, as it’s going to be amazing! Participate in as many activities as possible, joining in with all the games and activities that will be happening 

3. Speak to as many people as possible! Roverway will be an opportunity to meet hundreds of fellow scouts and guides from across the globe. Make it a challenge to see how many different countries you can find people from.

4. Look out for one another You will be in your patrols for all of Roverway Get to know each other well and look after one another

5. Take 5 Some days you may feel like you just need to relax and put your feet up for 5 minutes away from the busy Roverway life Make sure you tell your buddy so they know where you are

6.Drink plenty of water It may be hot at Roverway, so make sure you always carry a bottle of water with you at all times to keep hydrated

7. Eat Plenty of food Make sure that eat plenty of food at each meal time to keep your energy high so you will be able to keep going long into the night

8. Do Something New Challenge yourself to do something new that you have never done before.

9. Ask for Help For some of you this may be the first time you have been abroad on your own. But you are not alone!

10. UK Challenges There are UK challenges for Roverway which will are great fun, and have been designed to bring the contingent more together, so make sure you do all of them! * Dancing will not be forced, but will be recommended

11. Swaps There will be a lot of opportunities to swap badges, neckers, and other scouting items.

12. Local Gift for your Tribe Bring something that you can share with your tribe – local chocolate, sweets or nettle tea… On your paths on Roverway, there may be a time each evening where each country in your tribe shares a gift with everyone that is local to them. This may be local sweats or chocolate. Don’t end up in the same situation where Wylie had to make nettle tea as he left the gift for everyone in the bag that went to main camp (you can drop one bag), which meant that he had no gift to share… So the quick thinking meant that he had to make nettle tea (which was just some nettles in some warm water and handed around to everyone… - it didn’t go down to well)

13. Ear Plugs Although you may be partying hard the first night, you may want a good nights sleep for the second, so bring some earplugs

14. Dry bags Nobody likes wet clothes when you are already soaked… … except this man

15. Washing Line If you forget to bring dry bags, then it might be an idea to bring a washing line with pegs

15. Washing Line Or…

16. Bring good Tent pegs Below is examples of bad tent pegs You will be camping on a beach at the opening ceremony, so long pegs have been advised

17. Blister Plasters Blisters may happen, bring blister plasters Bring a personal first aide kit; medication such as paracetamol may be hard to find

18. Mckinley Nevada 3 Don't strap tent poles to the outside of your bag going though an airport, or be prepared to lose them…

19. Battery Chargers Battery packs are a great way to quickly charge your phone

20. Contact information as background on phone Set the background of your phone to something that could track your phone back to the UK CMT if it gets lost Something like:
