Bellringer 10.4Writing to Win: Explain in writing the integer rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing

Perimeter Area Combining like terms

Properties of Numbers are helpful when simplifying numerical expressions

(Associative Property) of Addition When three or more numbers are added the sum is the same no matter the order when grouped.

Identity Property of Addition The sum of any number and zero is the original number. 5 + 0 = 5

Commutative Property of Addition When two numbers are added, the sum is the same regardless of the order of the addends. 4 + 2 = 2 + 4 6 = 6

Distributive Property of Addition  The sum of two numbers times a third number is equal to the sum of each addend times the third number. 4 (6 + 3) = 4 x 6 + 4 x 3

Properties of Numbers are helpful when simplifying numerical expressions

(Associative Property) of Multiplication When three or more numbers are multiplied the product is the same no matter the order when grouped.

Identity Property of Multiplication The product of any number and 1 is that number. 5 x 1 = 5

Commutative Property of Multiplication When two numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the order of the factors. 4 x 2 = 2 x 4 8 = 8

Distributive Property of Multiplication  multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend by the number and then adding the products. 4 (6 + 3) = 4 x 6 + 4 x 3

Zero Property of Multiplication  any number multiplied by zero is zero 4 x 0 = 0

Start with a number. Add seven. Double the result. Subtract four. I can apply the distributive property when rewriting and evaluating algebraic expressions. I can represent a value using variables? What strategies can be used for understanding and representing real situations using algebraic expressions and equations? Start with a number. Add seven. Double the result. Subtract four. Half the result. Subtract five

Think about the date of your birthday. Multiply the number of the month of your birthday by 5. Add 7. Multiply by 4. Add 13. Multiply by 5. Add the day of your birthday. Subtract 205. Write your answer. Your answer should show the month and day of your birth. I can apply the distributive property when rewriting and evaluating algebraic expressions. I can represent a value using variables? What strategies can be used for understanding and representing real situations using algebraic expressions and equations? Algebra Magic, state task pgs 43-44
