Properties of Numbers are helpful when simplifying numerical expressions
(Associative Property) of Addition When three of more numbers are added the sum is the same no matter the order when grouped.
Identity Property of Addition The product of any number and 1 is the original number. 5 x 1= 5
Commutative Property of Addition When two numbers are added, the sum is the same regardless of the order of the addends. 4 + 2 = 2 + 4 6 = 6
Distributive Property of Addition The sum of two numbers times a third number is equal to the sum of each addend times the third number. 4 (6 + 3) = 4 x 6 + 4 x 3
Properties of Numbers are helpful when simplifying numerical expressions
(Associative Property) of Multiplication When three of more numbers are multiplied the product is the same no matter the order when grouped.
Identity Property of Multiplication The product of any number and zero is zero. 5 x 0 = 0
Commutative Property of Multiplication When two numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the order of the factors. 4 x 2 = 2 x 4 8 = 8
Distributive Property of Multiplication multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend by the number and then adding the products. 4 (6 + 3) = 4 x 6 + 4 x 3
Zero Property of Multiplication any number multiplied by zero is zero 4 x 0 = 0
