Shoot-Around Good-Morning! Set your stuff down at your desk Have only a pencil/pen and your notebook on your desk Grab a piece of loose leaf paper on the front desk and begin the Shoot-Around Give me a goal you want to accomplish this quarter, semester, and school-year. How can I help you accomplish those?

Parts of an experiment Mr. Ramsey

Agenda Guided Walkthrough - Vocab Visual Walkthrough – Example Problem Practice – Problems on dry erase boards 9:15am Scrimmage – Lab activity 9:35am Final Stretch 10:05am

Guide for Note Taking! If the text is in BOLD or underline then that is the information that needs to be translated into your notebook You may write other information in the notebook; however, I will keep advancing on a scheduled time

Vocabulary Introduction – the beginning of the experiment; includes the parts asking a question and gathering background information Hypothesis – A proposed explanation for the question based solely on the background information

Vocabulary Experiment – an orderly procedure designed to test the validity of the hypothesis Dependent Variable – the variable that is affected by the input of another variable. Independent Variable – the variable that is stable and causes the resulting variable

Dependent vs Independent Example Ex: Ke$ha is able to produce “quality” music using the effects of autotune Dependent Variable: Ke$ha’s song quality Independent Variable: Autotune

Check for Understanding Think-Pair-Share

Vocab Experiment – the scientific procedure to test a hypothesis and to reach a conclusion Conclusion – the confirmation or rejection of the hypothesis

Turn and Talk Why are all of these steps essential in producing a valid, accurate result to an experiment??

Identify the Step After doing research, I believe that skittles may be a cure for cancer because rainbows heal everything. Hypothesis

Identify the Step My friend and I wondered if a device could translate flatulence noise into Kevin Hart jokes Introduction – Ask a question

Identify the Step After completing the experiment, Mr. Ramsey determined that the egg indeed came before the chicken Conclusion

Identify the Step Mr. Wall conducted a test to determine if the statement “student attendance will increase if students were paid money to come to school.” Experiment What would be the dependent and independent variable for these??

Mini Lab You will conduct your own mini lesson with your table group First, develop a question of your choice with the materials I have. Second, for “research” do your best to figure out as much as you can without conducting the experiment Third, get your hypothesis approved by me FIRST before you experiment

Final Stretch Make sure all wrappers, candy, and paper is picked up off the floor! Anything that you opened, you may consume WITHIN my doors (If you consume in another class and get in trouble, that’s not my fault) When everything is picked up, sit down in your seat and flip your shoot-around over to start your exit-ticket.

Exit Ticket Name the Four Steps to an experiment What is the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable? Why are all the steps vital in producing valid, accurate results? Tell me one thing you enjoyed about this lesson. Tell me one thing I should work on for next time. When finished please turn your sheet into the tray.
