What is HB5? In 2013 Texas Legislature passed HB 5 which made substantial changes to the state's curriculum and graduation requirements.
What is an Endorsment? An endorsement is a related series of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill set. (STEM, Business & Industry, Public Service, Arts & Humanities, and Multidisciplinary)
What is a Pathway? A specific program of study that falls under each endorsement.
What classes should my child take?
House Bill 5 New graduation requirements for students entering high school in 2014-2015 and beyond. You will have some choices to make as you design your 4 year plan for high school due to legislation passed in 2013. Referred to as “House Bill 5” or HB5, this legislation enacts rules and impact graduation requirements, including changes to graduation plans and STAAR end of course assessments.
Individual Course Planning Students will meet with their counselor to discuss course selections Please have your course sheet complete prior to your meeting!
End of Course Tests In addition, HB5 requires STAAR End of Course tests in the following subjects: English 1 English 2 Algebra 1 Biology U.S. History
What is AP Potential? Identifies students who are likely to score a 3 or higher on a given AP Exam based on their performance on the PSAT Shows moderate to strong correlations between PSAT scores and AP Exam results
Dual Credit Students have an opportunity to take college courses while attending high school to earn both high school & college credit. To participate in a Dual Credit Course: A student needs to pass the TSI Exam. Submit a Dual Credit Admissions Student Packet by or before the deadline student must meet with their Academic Counselor for review of a CLEAR understanding of expectations.
