Ski Trip – key information Summary from Parents’ Meeting.

Travel Arrangements Departing Students arriving at GCA: 02:45 – 24th March (Early hours on Saturday!) Coach departing at GCA: 03:00 – 24th March Check in time at Manchester: 05:15 Departure time from Manchester: 07:15 (Flight no: FR3218) Arrival at Bergamo Airport: 10:25 Arrival at Hotel Kapriol: 15:30 In order to make the journey pass more quickly, it is a good idea to take books, games, cards, mp3 players. DVD’s etc., but please no large stereos! We also recommend that you bring your own choice of DVD’s / videos. We suggest to parents that they supply picnics, snacks etc. for the outward journey especially if travelling a considerable distance to the channel port. Regular stops will be made en route, but service areas can be expensive. Taking a picnic enables party members to save their money for the return journey. Foreign currency (Euros) or Swiss Francs will be required for stops abroad. N.B. Meals en route to and from the resort are not included in the course cost. There will be space for one piece of luggage (soft holdall type bag, not a suitcase) per person plus a small piece of hand luggage. It is also a good idea to take a pillow onto the coach for the overnight journey. Please ensure that pupils plan their packing so that everything they need on the journey is taken on board at the outset. We strongly recommend that passengers remain in their seats with their seatbelts on, whilst the coach is in motion. We also recommend seating a member of staff at the rear of the coach to enable you to enforce this. Recent surveys show that the greatest risk of injury during coach travel is from passengers not being in their seats. This, not surprisingly, is highlighted in student travel. Injuries are caused by falls, slips and trips whilst the coach is under sharp braking or acceleration. All our UK coaches are equipped with lap belts. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAW IN FRANCE NOW STATES THAT AN ADULT MUST BE SEATED AT EACH EXIT DURING TRAVEL THROUGH FRANCE.

Travel Arrangements Return Journey – 31st March Departure from Hotel Kapriol: 07:30 Check in at Milan Terminal 2: 12:20 (Flight no: EZY2921) Departure from Milan Terminal 2: 14:20 Arrival at Manchester Terminal 1: 15:30 Arrival at GCA: 17:45 approx.

Synopsis of cover: Medical Expenses £5,000,000 (includes MEDICARD and 24 hour medical assistance) Personal Accident Up to £25,000 Cancellation and curtailment Up to ski course cost Baggage £1500 Personal Money £200 Own skis £350 Travel delay Up to £100 Personal Liability £1,000,000 There is a £40 excess for some sections.

Checklist - essentials Passport & EHIC card Ski Jacket/Sallopettes Goggles/Glasses Sun cream Ski socks/Hat/Ski Gloves Clothes for the evening Carrier bag for dirty washing! Pocket money – approx. 80 euros. English money in an envelope clearly labelled. Euros in an envelope with the amount clearly marked. Please take only one, medium-sized, suitcase: 18-20kg. Kit List Below is a list of suggested items we recommend to take: Pillow and pillow case (for the journey). Wash bag and towels Night clothes Several changes of underwear and socks Casual wear for travel and evenings, including a warm fleece Swimming costume Several t-shirts / long-sleeved and short-sleeved A pair of trainers Warm jacket/waterproof jacket Labelled strong plastic bags (bin liners) for spare clothes Plastic water bottle Toiletries Kit List – ski 2 pairs of thick socks 1 pair of ski gloves Good quality sun glasses and goggles if available. A thick pullover/fleece plus shirts or polo necks Scarf and warm hat Aprés ski boots or heavy shoes High factor suntan lotion / block – please help to ensure that pupils do not expose themselves to the potential hazard of sunburn. Please note that temperatures on the snow can vary enormously in late season with bright sunshine and hot temperatures one minute and then cold, cloudy weather the next. Hence we would recommend several layers are worn each day i.e. T-shirt, pullover / fleece top, jacket to be prepared for all types of conditions. Mobile Phones and other valuables We would strongly recommend that pupils are discouraged from bringing mobile phones (or any other valuable items) as they are easily lost or stolen and may not be covered by insurance.
