Homeostasis. What is Homeostasis? The ability to maintain constant internal physical and chemical conditions All living things must do this to survive.

Mrs. Wharton’s Science Class Body Organization and Homeostasis

How is the Body Organized? Levels of organization in the human body consist of: Cells Tissues Organs Organ systems

Definitions Cell Basic unit of structure and function of living things. Examples: Blood cells, Bone cells, nerve cells, skin cells

Definitions Tissues Made of cells. Similar in structure and function and are joined together. Examples: Blood, bone tissue, nerve tissue, skin tissue, muscle tissue.

Definitions Organs Structure made of groups of different tissues that work together Examples: Heart, Brain, Kidney, liver, Skin, Lung, Bone , Stomach

Definitions Organ Systems Group of organs that work together to perform a specific function. Example: Circulatory system, Digestive system, Nervous system

Body Systems Different organ systems work together and depend on one another ( ie: riding a bike) Our body systems regulate the internal environment and strive to give our cells the necessary conditions they need to function. They work together to benefit the ENTIRE organism
