Science Starter List the main body systems (there is 11) Turn in last nights homeostasis homework!! Science Starter List the main body systems (there is 11) List the 3 body planes and describe the way they separate the body sections Which organs are in the following body cavities? Thoracic Abdominal Cranial Use at least 5 anatomical terms to describe the body to the right

Today’s Agenda Science Starter Anatomy Packet What to know… Anatomy & Physiology Posters Exit Quiz

Anatomy Foldable (15 minutes) Define terms on first page and use to label body on back (must use ALL of the terms) Page 2 you will need to use the Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology book (blue) Draw the diagrams, fill in the terms for all figures! If you finish early, there is an article on homeostasis at the front to read for homework, read the article and answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper!

What to know… 1.1 Characteristics of inorganic chemical compounds Acid/Base, Properties of water 1.2 Characteristics of organic chemical compounds Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, & Nucleic Acids 1.3 Body systems in the human body Know the basic function and associated organs, homeostasis 1.4 Anatomical terminology Body cavities, anatomical position, and planes of body

Anatomical Terminology Anatomical Position = standing erect, face forward, arms at side, palms facing forward 1. Superior 2. Inferior 3. Anterior 4. Posterior 5. Medial 6. Lateral 7. Proximal 8. Distal 9. Superficial 10. Deep

Figure 1.7A Regional terms for body areas You need to know the following: Terms (anterior and posterior) Definitions Be able to label the diagram

Body Planes and Sections Be able to identify what body parts will be visible for each type of body cut/plane: Sagittal Coronal (frontal) Transverse (cross)

Body Cavities You need to know the different body cavities

Figure 1.11 Abdominopelvic regions Be sure that you are not only familiar with the regions, but the organs that are found in those regions as well.

Anatomy Posters In groups choose one of the major body systems Use a poster to put in the classroom and convey the following: Associated Organs Functions and role in homeostasis (negative/positive feedback?) Cavities in which this body system is located The best plane/section used to visualize this body system Describe the position of it’s organs with at least 5 anatomy terms Explain which biomolecules are important for the function of this body system and why

Exit Quiz This quiz will be taken for a grade Use this quiz to gauge which objectives you need to focus on! We will use this when we have the review tomorrow Turn into blue basket when you are finished!
