In the Beginning!!!!!!!!

Physiology: Study of the function of the body. How everything works Physiology: Study of the function of the body. How everything works. Systems

Anatomy: The study of the structures and parts of the body.

Levels of Organization Life can be broken down into physical and chemical levels. We will discuss seven different levels.

ATOMS ATOMS  Atoms are considered part of the chemical level. (e.g. C, H, O, N)

MOLECULES  MOLECULES  One or more atoms. Also known as the chemical level. (e.g. H20 CO2)

CELL  CELL  The smallest living unit in the human body (e.g. cyto-, -cyte)

 TISSUE  A collection of cells that perform a specific function. (e.g. muscle)

ORGAN  ORGAN  Combination of tissues that perform complex functions. (e.g. heart, liver)

SYSTEMS  SYSTEM  A group of organs that work together to perform one or more functions. (e.g. Nervous system, digestive)

 ORGANISM  Human being. All systems work together. (e.g. ME!)

Review Atom  Molecule  Cell  Tissue  Organ  System  Organism

This flowchart can go both ways so add  arrows going backwards. Don’t forget This flowchart can go both ways so add  arrows going backwards.

Systems (WORK TIME) Let us learn about systems of the body. Complete page 4 in you lab books. (Text pages 7-13)
