Where can this biome be found? Deciduous forests can be found in Eastern parts of North America, in the middle of Europe, and in eastern Asia
Geologic Features Beneath the soil there are layers of clay The Temperate Forest is usually near rivers, ponds, and lakes Has very fertile soil because of decaying leaves
Temperature & Precipitation The average temperature of the deciduous forest is about -30˚C- 30˚C The average rainfall is about 30-100 inches
Plants Maple, Oak, Birch, and Elm trees are just a few different types of trees located in the deciduous forest, that house birds, & different types of animals Shrubs and herbs live on the forest floor also
Types of Animals Northern Cardinal: Easily spotted, red song bird. It is from the Eastern United States, such as the deciduous forest Black Bear: Large, mostly harmless bears. They hibernate in the winter, & are found across North America Frog: Amphibians are animals that spend part of their lives under the water, and the remainder on land. Starting as a tadpole, it eventually grow into a mature frog
Adaptations During winter, trees in the temperate forest lose their leaves, so they don’t freeze and to conserve food Bears in the winter develop extra fat and fur to keep themselves warmer during their hibernation In the deciduous forest trees lean towards the sun to receive more light to make energy
Human Impact & Survival Endangering the Deciduous Forest, humans cut down trees for paper products, plow land for agricultural purposes, & build residential & commercial infrastructure To ensure survival of the Temperate Forest we could carpool more to decrease fuel emission, and cut down less trees to conserve the area for wildlife
Value of Temperate Forest To make money off of this biome people may cut down trees to produce paper, & many wood products Many people also hunt animals for their fur and for game
Questions How can we save the temperate forest? What kind of trees live in the deciduous forest? What types of animals are found here? Where can temperate forests be found? What is the annual precipitation amount? Name one organism & its adaptation to the forest. What kind of resources can we get from the deciduous forest?
