Parents, The most important thing you can do to help your child in reading is to sit beside him/her , look at the book and listen to it being read. At the beginning of 1st grade students should be reading Level 4 books but must read a Level16 by the end of 1st grade.

Students are taught skills at school for getting words they don't know, such as: 1. Get your lips ready. 2. Sound it out. C---a---t 3. Find the part you know. 4. Skip the word, reread the sentence and see what makes sense.

Good job. You are listening to your child read. Students should be reading their book bag books every night. After reading, ask questions. If the book is lost or is damaged, it will cost $5.00. Good job. You are listening to your child read.

Parents, Please sign your child’s reading log daily! Name of Book Date Parent signature
