中国老人 In Chinese culture, senior people are very much respected and老 is not a negative word. Many senior people live with their son’s or daughter’s family – they are actually considered to be their family members. In Chinese law, supporting one’s parents when they get old is mandatory. But the reality is some young people don’t even have enough money to support their own family, and their parents usually feel obligated to support them – if the parents are wealthier than their children. Many seniors enjoy taking care of their grandchildren. In their spare time, seniors like to play Taichi, singing songs in Beijing Operas, raising birds as pets, play Chinese chess, etc.
