SciFinder web interface This powerpoint is mainly covered for the features of SF web version available at Dec 08. CAS will keep update the SF web version. You can read for the CAS rollout for the latest added features. This powerpoint is target to the librarian for the SF web set up, registration process, new interface and features

Technical aspects of SciFinder Web SciFinder URL : http://scifinder.cas.org Windows-based browsers Internet Explorer 6.x and 7.x as well as FireFox 2.x Mac browser support for Firefox and Safari Java applet (J2SE Runtime Environment 6.0, which installs Java 1.6 version) installed on users’ computers for CASDraw to operate No software or site.prf required Network requirement: https (SSL) connection via port 443 to scifinder.cas.org http connection on port 80 to chemport.cas.org Client based SciFinder will continue to be fully supported by CAS No software and site.prf is required. Users can access SF web directly by the URL, which is by IP control. https (SSL) connection via port 443 to scifinder.cas.org. Port 443 is the standard port for https connections. Fulltext capabilities of the application, they will need to support an http connection on port 80 to chemport.cas.org, same as the client version of SciFinder.

Change the concurrency setting This is an option of concurrency setting on my.cas.

When clicking the registration URL When the users click the URL, they can choose to create a new SF web ID/PW

User enters the information Fill up those information. The email domain must be the school/organization domain.

Email validation for new IDs

User receives email confirmation Users will receive the email from CAS for successful register. They need to click for the “registration complete link” to activate their ID/PW.

User is now ready to access User is ready to access SF web….

New features in SciFinder Web Direct links to data Index term linking Navigate to stages of search Save answer sets in server Export answer set as .pdf Keep Me Posted Session history retention Create new answer sets using selective keep/remove Analyze answers sets automatically Analyze substances by substance role, elements, reaction availability or commercial availability New feature on SF web

SciFinder web interface This powerpoint is mainly covered for the features of SF web version available at Dec 08. CAS will keep update the SF web version. You can read for the CAS rollout for the latest added features. This powerpoint is target to the librarian for the SF web set up, registration process, new interface and features

Clear search interface at one page Choose for references, substances and reactions search from the top Choose for the search way from the left Entry the search queries in the middle The interface is more clear now. Users can click at the top to select type of search, and then select the search way from the left column…. Users can choose the type of search, enter the search and limit the search on one page.

Informative references answer page This is the answer set page. You can see there is a part of abstract so that users can quick glance on it to know whether the article is useful. And they can get related substance, reaction etc under the abstract… Once get the answer, SF will automatically analyze author, which is the default. Users can analyze the answer set by pulling down the menu Besides, users can sort the answer, like accession number…. Abstract information for quick reference, with the keyword highlighted Get related information for particular or all references Analyses are performed automatically for getting more ideas of answer set

Permalink: Sharing the links for records A CAplus record (1) Permalink: Sharing the links for records This is a patent record in CAplus. You can see those publication information is on the right side now. There is a new feature of permalink. It is a permanent link that users can share this link with other. Good for professors to put this link on their notes. When another users click for this link, they just need to login for SF and then they can see this record directly.

A CAplus record (2) CAS scientists index for novel concepts and substances Concepts heading with sub-heading for detailed information Index terms are linked for faster exploring CAS registry number is indexed for substance with specific role Indexing is another important part for the record You can see the CA section title, to know more about the subject fields. Besides, you can see the concepts heading which is indexed by CA editors. When users read on the concept heading and its sub-heading, they can get more ideas for this record CAS also indexes for substance. And you can see they have CAS role for each indexed substance, so we can know if this substance is for application, preparation, biological activity and so on

Analyze the results by different ways Analyze by different ways. Analyze by index term to get more ideas for the key findings from the answer set

Keep selected records and analysis display Keep/Remove selected records Output options Save (on CAS server, up to 20,000 answers per answer set) Print answers Export in different kinds of format (.akx, .pdf, .rtf, .txt) Users can save the answer set….it will be saved on CAS server. So that users just need to login SF from any computer and they can get back the answer set. They can export the answer into pdf format too. Remember to keep analysis result if you want to continue processing

Categorize helps to refine to specific index terms Categorize features…if users are new for their research topics, they can use categorize to narrow down the answer. SF will analyze the answer from a broad field to more specific index term. Users can choose their particular interest step by step.

Refine the answer sets to particular interest

Combine answer sets for references, substances and reactions Combine answer sets....users need to save their answer set and choose the answer sets they want to combine. If they choose for 2 answer set, then you can see there are 4 ways of combine are available. If they choose more than 2 answer sets, then you can see there are 2 ways of combine are available, which are Combine and Intersect.

Keep me posted for references KMP features….it is only available for SF commercial and government customer before.

Download up to 10 previous history sessions Can download the history session for keeping track the search strategies

Structure search

Structure search java plug-in Please remind customers to install for Java plug in for structure search

Structure search result SF will analyze the answer sets automatically. Please know that some substructure analyze features are not available yet. Automatic analysis: - Substance roles, elements, reaction availability and commercial availability

Refine structure results by atom attachment Refine the structure….by atom attachment

A substance record (1) A substance record. CAS has grouped the properties. It is more easy for users to find out their desired properties. Like, spectra. Besides, when you right click the structure, you can choose to copy the structure into drawing board

A substance record (2) Spectra data….

Get interest references for substance Those “get related” icons are on the top of record, which is more eye-catching now…

Get reaction information with detailed condition

Export supplier information to excel table Export the supplier information into excel….can choose more than one substance from the answer set.

Summary of SciFinder Web Provide quick access and user friendly interface to search for scientific information New features that are tailor made for the needs of researchers Enhanced content for properties, spectra, registration, reaction information and etc Personalization features (keep me posted and save as)
