Candida & Your Health

Candida Albicans A healthy body is host to a delicate balance of microflora (probiotics, fungi and yeast). If this balance becomes compromised through various factors these harmful yeast and fungi, which under normal conditions are present in small amounts, can multiply and overtake the friendly microflora. Types of Candida: Oral Candidiasis - in the mouth or throat ie thrush Genital - yeast infections Skin – Diaper rash, jock itch, athlete’s foot Blood stream – Invasive candidiasis (through thrush or leaky gut syndrome)

Causes Antibiotics Corticosteroid drugs Hormonal changes such as the normal menstrual cycle promote yeast growth; so do birth control pills and pregnancy Diet – high sugar, processed, refined foods. Yeast feeds on sugar! Poor digestion Weakened immune system Stress – Adrenal fatigue Diabetes Note: this is not a STD.

Recommendations Some cases of candida overgrowth can be extremely difficult to get under control. Your client must be prepared to be persistent and patient. It’s an imbalance and did not happen overnight. The diet is often referred to as the “caveman’s diet”. Strict diet often necessary for a minimum of 6 -8 weeks – often longer. Make sure the diet is sugar-free, yeast free and very low in fruit. Candida thrives in a sugary environment, so the diet should be low in carbohydrates. Avoid aged chesses, alcohol, vinegar and other fermented foods, raw mushrooms and condiments. Diet should consist primarily of protein (i.e. chicken, fish, vegetable sources), vegetables, eggs, lentils, legumes, rice, millet, quinoa, plain yogurt, rice, and goat or sheep products. Nuts and seeds should be warmed at 200 degrees for 10 minutes to destroy any mold. Store in freezer. Freeze left overs to reduce the growth of mold. Avoid commercial toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every thirty days. This is a good preventative measure against both fungal and bacterial infections of the mouth. Wear white cotton lined underwear. Avoid sitting around in a damp bathing suit or workout clothes. Avoid damp and moldy places such as basements. Check house plants for mold. Sitz bath with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar

Treatment Protocol There will be a natural “die off” of the yeast and fungi when the diet is modified. This often causes a temporary worsening of symptoms. This is a normal part of the healing process. I joking tell clients this is the fungus wanting to be fed in order to stay alive! The cravings for sugar and complex carbohydrates can be very intense for the first 7-10 days. Start with Probiotic II. This is a remarkable product and will help to restore and maintain microbial balance. YF Detox is a potent antifungal. It has caprylic acid, Pau d’arco, garlic, oregano, echinacea purpurea, zinc and selenium. High Potency Garlic- Is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers. SilverGuard – for oral thrush. Silver Gel for topical use. Candida Clear kit – an excellent cleanse to balance and restore the system.
