Vision and Values Summit Friday April 6, 2018 Coming together to share our vision and define our values. WCC's vision and values should reflect a commitment to students and their ability to be global citizens that contribute to the growth and wellness of society. Place greater emphasis on accountability and less attention on entitlement.

Schedule of Events Welcome and opening remarks Dr. Belinda S. Miles Overview of work to date Prof. Phil McGrath Vision and Values survey and key findings Prof. Kamil Hamaoui Table activities (2 rounds): Facilitators & Assigned Domains WCC Community Assessment of Values “Action Definitions” Discussion Concluding Remarks and Next Steps Dr. Vanessa Morest

Definitions: Vision Statement: “A statement of the future that the educational institution aspires to achieve, or a description of a future state that is better in some significant way than what currently exists”. Values Statement: “Values are deeply held ideals and beliefs, their underlying principles guide the institutions’ day to day procedures and the behaviors of the institutions’ members. “

Vision Statement: "Westchester Community College is a diverse, dynamic educational institution where each student is guided on a path of personal success, intellectual growth and community engagement".

What we are asking of you: In a few minutes you will be presented with data collected and assessed from the Vision and Values Survey. This survey helped us to understand the values that are most important to the college community. We come together today to create actionable definitions for each of these core values. When you registered you were randomly chosen as a member of a group. We ask that you work together to determine if any of the values in the assigned domain can be combined due to overlap or similarity, and then compose an actionable definition of each value.

1,106 Surveys Completed 1,265 surveys were submitted by the Monday, March 26 deadline.

Survey Response Rate n # FT # PT % FT % Total Administrators 37 52 71% Faculty 146 210 844 70% 14% Staff 95 264 36% Students 828 6,748 5,823 12% 7%

A values statement is viewed as more important.

Administrators view the statements as more important. Not Important (1) Less Important (1.5, 2) Neutral (2.5, 3) Somewhat Important (3.5, 4) Very Important (4.5, 5)

Overall, all values were rated as important.

Some were rated more highly than others.

They fall into three domains.

Individual/interpersonal values are more important.
