10 TYPES OF ENERGY Translational, Rotational, Electromagnetic, Electrical, Chemical, Thermal, Sound, Elastic, Gravitational and Nuclear.
All forms of energy fall under 2 categories:  Potential  Kinetic.
 Is the ability to cause changes in matter.  Energy can transform, or change, from one form into another.  Energy is never used up.
Kinetic and Potential Energy have many forms. 1. Mechanical Energy - Energy associated with motion or position.

Changes of Energy. Energy Transfers Energy can be transferred from one object to another. It is a transfer if the same form of energy is in both objects.
 Energy is the ability to do work or cause change.  It can change the temperature, shape, speed, or direction of an object.
 1. Energy is the ability to cause change. Joules are used to measure energy.
Energy In all it’s forms. What is energy? The ability to do work or move objects Energy is all around you! – You can hear energy as sound. – You can see.
ENERGY. Potential energy is energy due to position. Systems or objects with potential energy are able to exert forces (exchange energy) as they change.
7 th Grade Science.  Energy is the ability to do work or cause change.  Work is done when a force moves an object through a distance. Work is the transfer.

Standard 4:4

Objective 4: Analyze various forms of energy and how living organisms sense and respond to energy a) Analyze the cyclic nature of potential and kinetic energy (e.g., a bouncing ball, a pendulum). b) Trace the conversion of energy from one form of energy to another (e.g., light to chemical to mechanical). c) Cite examples of how organisms sense various types of energy. d) Investigate and report the response of various organisms to changes in energy (e.g., plant response to light, human response to motion, sound, light, insects’ response to changes in light intensity). e) Investigate and describe how engineers have developed devices to help us sense various types of energy (e.g., seismographs, eyeglasses, telescopes, hearing aids).

Energy Energy is never created or destroyed. It is just converted from one form to another.

Kinetic Potential Kinetic Energy= Energy of motion Potential Energy= Stored energy http://youtu.be/7K4V0NvUxRg

Energy Conversion Energy isn’t created or destroyed, just converted from one form to another.

Different types of energy Potential: Gravitational potential= Distance from a center of gravity Elastic potential= Literally elastic, magnetic etc. Chemical potential= food etc. Kinetic (Any energy that moves) Seismic waves Sound Motion Temperature (speed of molecules)

Energy is always converting.

Organisms Sense Energy in Different Ways Many organisms have eyes and ears. Snakes sense infrared to help them track predators. Bats use sonar.

Living Organisms Respond to Energy. People look when they hear a noise. Dogs bark when they hear noises. People cover their ears when they hear a loud noise etc. Fish swim away when they feel vibration.

Plants response to energy Plants roots are programed to grow towards gravity and the stems are programed to grow away. This is gravitropism. https://youtu.be/mYZXax8V_L0 Plants are also programed to respond to light. This is heliotropism. https://youtu.be/wYrjo2V93uo

Humans Create Technology to Help us Sense and use Energy. Seismographs Sonar Detection Eyeglasses Hearing Aids Radios Telescope Wifi Electricity

4:4 Quiz What happens to the kinetic and potential energy as you throw a ball in the air? Why type of energy conversions happen when you turn a TV on? How do organisms sense and respond to different types of energy? What technologies have we developed to help us use and identify energy?
