To what extent was there a ‘thaw’ 1953-62? Stalin dies in 1953, we will see how the US reacts to subsequent Russian policy. We will look at the policy of ‘peaceful co-existence’. But also at the Hungarian Uprising, 1856 and the Berlin Crisis, 1958-62.
