Project Information Contact Details Software for the Optimal Place Calculation for WIND-farms Project Information Project Acronym SOPCAWIND Project Number 296164 Project Status Execution Project Budget 2,468,785 Euros EC Contribution 1,950,000 Euros Funded By EU 7th Framework Programme, Theme ICT Start Date: 2012-05-01 End Date: 2014-04-30 Duration: 24 months Partners 6 (1 research institute, 1 university, 4 companies) The Sopcawind project aims at developing a new service achieved through the development of a software tool for optimal wind farm design based on a large and heterogeneous set of digitalised data containing information from different fields (wind climate, geography, environment, archaeology and land ownership), that will be treated, validated, standardised and converted to this end. The installation of wind farms has grown sharply in recent years, and is expected to continue this increasing trend due to the Governments' concern with the global climate change and environmental awareness. Sopcawind optimizes the location of windfarms by considering several criteria such as wind power, local environment characteristics, potential interference on communication systems, visual impact or the existence of archaeological sites. Two main services will be developed during the project:: The Sopcawind Data Pool for consulting processed data stored in the system and The Sopcawind Tool for windfarm optimization. .
