TETRA 1 - PACKET DATA Single Slot Packet Data The basic IP data service in TETRA 1 Multislot Packet Data increases bandwidth up to 4 times Combining up to 4 single slots in one packet data channel Dynamically change the number of slots as voice load varies Co-existence of single and multi slot packet data A Multi slot radio can operate on a single slot channel if necessary Handover seamlessly between sites Handover seamlessly between PD and TEDS

TEDS -Tetra Enhanced Data Service As seen from the user terminal and a network-connected server, TEDS is equivalent to the SSPD and MSPD TETRA 1 services. The differences are limited to the radio channels and air interface protocols. TEDS has the same TDMA FDD structure as Tetra 1 with 4 time slots per channel Two modes Conventional Access: Fully integrated with existing TETRA, uses existing TETRA control channel; Direct Access: Allows control channel to be provided on TEDS TEDS characteristics: 25, 50, 100 or 150 KHz Channel Bandwidth 8 subcarriers per 25 KHz; 2.7 KHz apart 4QAM, 16QAM or 64QAM modulation

Can TETRA help GPS Enabled Options Most TETRA Hand-Helds Most TETRA Mobiles Most TETRA Gateways Some products also support Glonass and other location standards The answer is yes! GPS is an option in most TETRA radios today. It is integrated into the products and optimised in terms of power consumption, performance and accuracy.

Can TETRA help 2 1 1 2 GPS for outdoor localisation There are also systems available on several TETRA radios that are independent of GPS and are suitable for use as indoor location systems or where GPS coverage is poor. E.g. Dense building environment Shopping Malls Factory complexes Office buildings Etc. 1 GPS for outdoor localisation 2 Radio BEACON for indoor localisation

Location Accuracy Do I really know where my user is ? High Accuracy Low Accuracy High Accuracy Knowing a location is only part of the story, it is vital to understand how accurate it is. Users are not tied to roads (SatNav) Accuracy could be the difference in responding in time or not. Visualisation systems need to be able portray the accuracy to aid decision making Knowing accuracy is just as important as knowing position

How can TETRA be utilised TETRA services allow use of SDS messaging for transmission of location data: EN 300 392-2: TETRA Voice plus Data (V+D), part 2: SDS4 and SDS-TL delivers variable length messages to 2047 bits(255 bytes) GPS location data is provided in the NMEA formats, GLL, GSA, GGA etc. Typical GLL mesage could contain as much as 48 bytes of data! Terminal Manufacturers support compact location messages to minimise traffic Location Information Protocol –TS 100 392-18-1, TTR001_19 Specifies the effective use of network by using compact message formats Typical message (compared to GLL) is 11 bytes long

Location Information Protocol LIP is a TETRA air interface optimized application layer protocol LIP can utilise the SDS-TL Service or the TETRA Packet Data Service LIP is location determination technology independent LIP can support a wide variety of location applications LIP optimises usage of air interface resources LIP is the TETRA standard for Location reporting and control

Location Information Protocol Optimization considers both message size and the number of messages Message size is a compromise between the number of bits available and user requirements Two types of location report are available with LIP: Short location report Long location report

Location Information Protocol Short Report Time Elapsed Longitude Latitude Position Error Horizontal Velocity Direction of Travel Reason for sending Long Report Time of Position; Longitude; Latitude; Location Circle with Altitude Horizontal Position Uncertainty; Location altitude; Horizontal velocity; Direction of travel extended Reason for sending The Short Report has a smaller number of elements and with restricted resolution for some of them, the Long Report provides more flexibility and resolution, but a longer message length
