LEAP application and its prospect (presented by the DPRK delegation) AES Workshop May 13-16, 2005, Beijing 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Introduction on Non-conventional Energy Development Centre (NCEDC) NCEDC was established in 1992, Main objectives are; .promote solar, wind, biomass, hydropower and biomass energy development in our country .technology transfer in these fields .organize training for engineers, designers and staffs, .encourage international co-operation in these fields .set up demonstrations 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea Strenuous research work conducted for LEAP application to domestic suit Completed interpretation of LEAP program, converted notification, help menus and databases into Korean version, and created “SET UP” panel LEAP program won high reputation from public users as a result of its experimental application into some work places of a thermo power plant Based on this success, we made up plans on energy balance in individual factories, electricity and coal mining industries as well as plans to maintain energy balance at provincial and national level 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Research work on LEAP (continued) LEAP enabled us to compile data for storage in energy database, analyze energy consumption pattern and its impact on environment, and work out an energy strategy Advertised the LEAP program among different institutions like Academy of Sciences, Ministries concerned, and energy-intensive factories and enterprises Joint research on LEAP application is underway with many researchers and technicians who are interested in LEAP program 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea (continued) A full set of energy database is required in order to conduct in-depth analysis on energy supply and demand and to forecast future pattern. Such database is necessary for accurate interpretation of the LEAP program and constructing scenarios We created tens of thousand various forms of databases in such major institutions as Central Scientific Information Agency, Grand People’s Study House, Ministries concerned, factories and universities These databases are being utilized for the modernization of national economy 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea These databases are regularly supplemented and updated with mainly energy-related information National energy system was categorized and macro-system structure indicating method was recently introduced while harmonizing domestic energy status with the international energy models Databases consist of data collecting module, data management module and data calculating module for easy access to data conversion 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea Preliminary module practice took place with a defined energy system indicating method Base data for model practice were collected from compiled energy database, while energy price and new technology were added from global data references Such databases consist of energy-related scientific and technical documents, actual data of production and consumption They also include 8 breakdowns, namely; energy resources, energy intensity, patent, application of technology, personal data, elementary knowledge on energy, and so forth 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea Database management It is highly important in database management to create a search program that allows easy tracking of data through front-page menu, this problem was solved successfully Priority will be given further in constructing sound database for wider use of the LEAP in economic analysis and planning More efforts will be directed to make scientific and active scenarios based on current economic situation 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea Goals & objectives Build our own capacity to analyze and assess energy production and consumption pattern by LEAP and draw up short, medium and long term energy plan at various levels - individual factories, at provincial, sectoral and national level Energy intensity will be analyzed based on worldwide tendency in coal-mining sector, transport, commerce and household sectors Apply the LEAP to the full so as to maintain balance in energy intensive and vital areas such as agriculture, steel, fertilizer and cement 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Goals & Objectives(continued) Further accelerate research and application of LEAP program which will contribute to efficiency improvement and keep balance in supply and demand, to ensure energy security at provincial and national level 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea

Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea AES Workshop 2005 9/20/2018 Thank you ! 9/20/2018 Non-conventional Energy Development Centre-DPR of Korea
