Disruptive WebRTC: New, Old or No Service Providers? Ingate’s SBCs do more than POTSoIP SIP. They were developed for standard compliant end-to-end multimedia SIP connectivity everywhere. WebRTC is just aligned – Ingate adds Q-TURN telepresence quality and the WebRTC & SIP Companion Gateway brings all WebRTC features to the enterprise PBX/UC Solution/call center and to the service provider next-generation telephony. Google said WebRTC would be easy… They’ve given us a lot (Chrome and VP8 are great) - But years have passed… Just communicate with anyone anywhere - even without numbers!? Finally get beyond 100 years of POTS A 50-years leap killing telephony It just wasn’t that quick or easy… Will Service Providers play different roles, or will the be new ones, the old or none at all? Pre-AM Radio 3.5 kHz voice 20 kHz audio and 3.5 Mbps video 9/20/2018
More Than the Web Required… Is it Standards, Service Providers, Microsoft and Apple, Gateways, Boxes? More Than the Web Required… Not that easy to do, and… Many services require telephony connections – gateways Others require enterprise PBX or UC connection And website click-to-call requires Microsoft’s and Apple’s WebRTC browsers 9/20/2018
And With Standards, TURN Severs, Gateways and all the other functions… More Than the Web Required… LAN SIP WS Media It is quite a lot more than the Web (and the browser is actually a pretty hostile environment for real-time communication) Especially if you also want telephony-like functions and hook to telephony It’s rather like this 9/20/2018
Open Video Communication Consortium 2012 Said They Would Make Telepresence Global Recent OVCC webinar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=15&v=EO0D4x97JHs All the right reasons, but still “only a conference room” not numbers and far from “just connect” So, not easy for them either… 9/20/2018
WebRTC WILL be on Everyone’s Desktop Even a test site is persuasive, try it at: https://webrtc.ingate.com https://webrtc.ingate.com/dialin.html?karl@intertex.se Clicks, links and numbers (here hooked up to SIP, PBX and PSTN) You actually use it a lot! But is it a service or product? 9/20/2018
Telephony-Type Services (just better) Are Coming (Not only IMS/RCS/Joyn, but more WebRTC OTT/Internet-based) Old Telephone Network Not the Core It’s just for interop In progress: There are some small services, but volume is coming Browsers, especially mobile, are not good enough phones yet – but work is ongoing 9/20/2018
Will Hooking-Up To Numbers Make a Difference? Is that for the service provider? They deliver SIP trunks today Or is it for the enterprise, PBX vendor, or WebRTC provider? They have the PBX or UC solution All are interested in providing the WebRTC specialties: Video Calling and much more 9/20/2018
Carriers Offer Voice Services Over Their SIP Trunks WebRTC Opens for Offering More and Better Typically delivered via a CPE (e.g. an E-SBC) as a demarcation point Won’t they deliver a “WebRTC E-SBC Companion CPE” instead? Will give more 9/20/2018
Wireline Carriers Can Be Mobile Operators We hardly use desktop phones with the enterprise PBX / UC solution nowadays WebRTC has superior remote connectivity: Talk everywhere you can surf - You use it! WebRTC smartphone clients - OTT over LTE and WiFi - are all you need and WebRTC is far superior to the mobile voice we know. With smartphone, WebRTC clients connected to the enterprise SIP- trunked PBX and UC (Unified Communications) environment, the SIP trunk provider becomes a OTT virtual mobile operator! WebRTC softclients – both as Web clients and as apps are coming, even for iPhone. Be aware! 9/20/2018
Toll Free numbers when clicking: (Click-to-call to the call center side-steps PSTN 800-numbers) Who doesn’t want a share the 800- number obsoleted cash flow? x1000 calls makes $15 Million 9/20/2018
