Movement How people, ideas, or goods get from one place to another. Movement of people: Voluntary and Involuntary Movement of Ideas: Cultural Diffusion, occurs via interaction with new people. Movement of goods: Imports and Exports.

Eurocentrism European Culture All All other cultures

Spanish Goals Pre-Columbus: Establish a new (quicker) trade route to India. After Columbus: Establish permanent profitable colonies in the “Indies”, extract wealth and resources to fuel further conquest. Conquistadors (Cortes conquered the Aztecs, Pizarro conquered the Incas, de Leon sought the “fountain of youth”) and Missionaries = convert people to Catholicism.

Social Organization in the 1st Spanish colonies Peninsulares: Creoles: Mestizos: Indians: Africans

Encomiendas: Right or Wrong What’s an encomiendas?

What information can we gain from the line graph?

Why does African enslavement increase? New European colonies are being established globally. There’s a need for a permanent labor force. The more colonies that are established the more wealth is generated, thus the need for more slaves. African slavers are profiting greatly and receiving European goods in exchange for slaves.

Life on the Middle Passage Consult Equanio (77), Newton (531), and Falconbridge (531) accounts.
