Certification for the Beauty & Wellness Sector Code of Practice for Beauty and Wellness Facilities – SLCP 13:2012

SLBS Certification Programme A certification programme for the beauty and wellness industry for the purpose of raising the professional standards of the industry. Developed with criteria tailored for the beauty and wellness industry. The primary objective is to in still consumer confidence for this industry by adopting good business practices. Beauty and Wellness businesses that are certified wear their trustworthiness with a decal that is displayed in their premises. .

The Standard The Beauty and Wellness Standard prepared by the technical committee contains a set of requirements for evaluation of Facilities for certification. The standard provides a framework for quality of care for customers and quality improvement. The standard help to build a quality culture at all levels.

The Standard Scope This national code of practice establishes minimum operational and hygienic requirements to be followed by business operators in the domestic beauty and wellness sector. Not applicable to facilities that offer remedies and services to clients for treatment of disease or injury; medicinal or surgical management

The Standard - The standard focus on aspects of service delivery, education, infection control practices, trained and experienced staff, infrastructure, environment safety, processes and controls among many others, statutory & regulatory compliances.

The Standard General Requirements – Clause3 Advertising of services Children & Vulnerable adults Operational Requirements – Clause 4 Preparation of Client Infection Control Measures Hygienic Requirements – Clause 5 Cleaning, Disinfecting and Sterisiling of equipment

The Standard Facility Requirements – Clause 6 Physical requirements Storage requirements Waste disposal Policy on food, drinks, smoking and animals Health & Safety Requirements – Clause 7 Health status of Service provider and staff Fire Safety Electrical safety

The Standard Staff Requirements and Responsibilities – Clause 8 Competence Dress Code Staff – Client/Customer Relations Confidentiality Record Keeping Complaints Management

Certification Tiers Tier I Certification - Bronze Completed application form; Must have had an independent or 3rd party inspection done; Met all LEGAL requirements; and Full compliance to SLCP 13:2012

Certification Tiers Tier II Certification - Gold Completed application form; Must have had an independent or 3rd party inspection done; Meets all LEGAL requirements; Full compliance with SLCP 13 and 75% compliance with specific type of beauty and wellness establishment standard A maximum of one non-conformity

Certification Tiers Tier III Certificate of Conformity - Platinum Completed application form; Must have had a 3rd party inspection done; Meets all LEGAL requirements; No major non-conformities; Full compliance with SLCP 13 and score of at least 95% in compliance to the requirements of the specific standard of the operator’s area of expertise.

VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATION Certification shall be valid for one year during which required documentation updates (where applicable) must be submitted to the Bureau. The certified operator shall be subject to at least one unannounced surveillance assessment, during the period of certification. Customer complaint audits shall be carried out on receipt of more than two (2) complaints or based on the severity of the complaint.

VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATION The Beauty & Wellness Operator shall be required to inform SLBS upon any physical changes to the establishment or relocation of the business. In the event of refurbishment or relocation of the business the Certification will automatically be suspended until an assessment of the refurbished or relocated place of operation is conducted.

THE PROCEDURE

The performance of the applicant operations would be assessed on the basis of implementation of the standards in their operations. The certification process would involve review of the documentation and onsite visits by trained assessors. Communication is maintained throughout the entire process between the applicant and SLBS thereby making the entire process a very transparent one. 

The procdure Renewal of certification has to be done every year. Thus certification serves as an assurance of quality services from a reliable, safe and quality conscious operator to the consumer desiring the best.

The procedure Though the Certification Program for Beauty and Wellness Facilities is a voluntary program, it would go a long way in enhancing the growth & credibility of the Industry in Saint Lucia and also build consumer trust in a beauty and wellness brand.”
