Korea and Vietnam Similarities-both wars were fought in East Asia to contain communism. Korea-1950-53 Vietnam- Late 1950’s to 1975

Korea & Vietnam Korea ended in a tie. Korea is still divided at the 38th parallel. North-communist and the South is Democratic. Vietnam War is considered a loss for the U.S. since Vietnam remains communist to this day.

Arms Race A massive competition of military build up... mostly nuclear weapons... where the U.S. and the Soviet Union tried to build bigger nuclear bombs and militaries than the other.

#13-Berlin Wall The Soviets built a wall that divided Communist East Berlin and Democratic West Berlin. Life in the West was prosperous and good. Life in the East was miserable under communist rule.

Berlin Wall The Berlin wall came down in 1989 when Germans from the East crossed over to West Berlin. It marked the ending of the Cold War and the collapse of Soviet domination of Eastern Europe. Germany unified shortly after.

Collapse of Soviet Union Officially the Soviet Union collapsed on December 25, 1991. For Germans, when the people of East Berlin tore down the wall in 1989 communism was all but over for them.

Truman Doctrine The Truman Doctrine was the official policy of President Truman. He said he would use any and all means including military force to stop communism.

Berlin Airlift When the Soviets built the Berlin Wall and cut off West Berlin, the U.S. dropped food and supplies from planes to save the German people in the of West Berlin
