Circulatory System

Has three main parts: The blood The muscle pumping the blood – The Heart The tubes carrying the blood – Arteries, Veins, Capillaries

1.) The Blood

Responsible for clotting Part Job Red Blood Cells Carries oxygen White Blood Cells Fights infection Platelets Responsible for clotting Plasma Carries food

2. ) The Heart But THIS one Not this one

Time to label…

Pumping Heart Pumping Heart - More Detailed

If the blood vessels that supply the heart with food and oxygen get clogged…

Heart attack

3. ) The Tubes – a. Arteries Take oxygenated blood away from the heart

3.) The Tubes – b. Veins Returns deoxygenated blood to the heart.

If those little valves don’t work properly… varicose veins

Artery Vein

The Tubes – c. Capillaries The capillary wall is only one CELL thick. If it were any thicker the food and oxygen that the blood carries couldn’t get through to the cells of your body.

This is what happens when those capillaries break under the skin. A bruise.

This is what happens when those capillaries break under the skin on your neck. A hickey. Trashy things…
