DEF Pressure Line Routing requirement and testing Rahul Janarthanan November 2015

Information Security Protect Information - Competitors desire to know what we are doing Discuss only with other team members who have a “Valid Right and Need to Know” Information shared should be clearly stated as Cummins Confidential and the vehicle OEM should use same “Need to Know” criteria for distribution within their company 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Objectives After completing this course you will be able to: Understand the importance of DEF pressure line routing Understand the AEB requirements for DEF pressure line routing Understand when the clear line test must be performed Have awareness of overall test procedure and equipment for DEF clear line test 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Reference AEB’s Market AEB Description AEB 24.76 Off Highway T4F Bosch Dosing System Aftertreatment Emission-related Installation Instructions and Requirements AEB 24.78 Aftertreatment Test Methods and Procedures On Highway EPA13 AEB 21.112 Automotive and Bus Aftertreatment (DPF and SCR) 2013 Installation Requirements Note: This presentation is applicable only for installations using Bosch dosing systems.

DEF Pressure Line Routing Requirements The DEF system must be designed such that upon priming with a closed dosing module, a minimum of 50 mm (2 in) of fluid can be observed above the dosing module. The 2in DEF column will help dissolve DEF crystallized at the dosing module during a hot shut down event. This requirement can be satisfied by routing the pressure line at a specific minimum elevation angle with a minimum DEF line length above the doser as listed in Table 5 of AEB 24.76/Table 26 of AEB 21.112. Note: These requirements are not applicable for T4F QSG12 as the pressure line remai9ns filled with DEF even after shut down as it does not purge.

DEF Pressure Line Routing Requirements Note: These requirements are not applicable for T4F QSG12 as the pressure line remai9ns filled with DEF even after shut down as it does not purge.

DEF Pressure Line Routing Requirements Line Length (m) Minimum DEF line length above the doser ‘X’ Minimum Elevation* Angle Y° 0.5 254 mm (10 in) 10° 1 280 mm (11 in) 1.5 300 mm (12 in) 2 380 mm (15 in) 2.5 420 mm (16.5 in) 3 450 mm (18 in) * Recommended to add the machine maximum parking angle to the minimum 10° Note: If the above requirements are not satisfied, Test Method 10 in AEB 24.78/Appendix L in AEB 21.112 needs to performed to determine if the pressure line routing supports the introduction of DEF into the dosing module.

Test procedure Test equipment and tools required Laptop with Calterm (Field/Engineering) or INSITE. Inline 6 or Peak adapter. 2nd dosing module (not installed on the aftertreatment). Food coloring (organic). Transparent DEF pressure line. Must be production intent length, diameter, connectors, and routing. Must have markings spaced in 12.7 mm (1/2 in) intervals from the inlet connector of the dosing module. Line material must be Polyamide (PA), Ethylene Propylene (EPDM) or equivalent. Do not use Buna-N, Neoprene, Silicon, Tygon or similar material, as they will chemically react with diesel exhaust fluid. 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Test Procedure Machine Preparation Check that there are no fault codes. Install clear DEF pressure line on equipment to match production intent routing. It is recommended to add a small amount of food coloring to the DEF to improve visibility. Note: Food coloring improves visibility of the DEF during the test. Coloring of the DEF is strongly recommended on applications where the dosing module is not readily visible from the outside of the equipment. 3-5 drops of food coloring per gallon of DEF is sufficient to improve visibility. 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Test Procedure Machine Preparation – contd. Move the electrical connector from the dosing module attached to the aftertreatment system and attach to a 2nd dosing module not mounted on the aftertreatment. Note: Switching the electrical connector to a 2nd dosing module will simulate a malfunctioning dosing module. This is done in order to allow the diagnostic features of the dosing system to work while preventing the occurrence of unwanted electrical faults and dosing into a cold exhaust 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Test Procedure Start equipment and allow the DEF dosing system to prime. Ensure that the DEF dosing system completes the priming sequence. When the priming sequence is completed, the pressure in the DEF dosing system will be maintained. a. If Calterm is used, wait until CALTERM parameters (V_USM_ReadyToDose) = 1 and (V_AIM_prg_UreaPumpP) = 900 +/- 20 kPa to ensure priming has been completed. b. If INSITE is used, wait until INSITE parameter (Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pres) = 900 +/- 20 kPa for at least 5 minutes to ensure priming has been completed. 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Test Procedure – contd. Measure the length of DEF column above/adjacent to the dosing module inlet connector as shown in Figure 10-1. Key off the equipment. Clear all the fault codes. Note: UDFM (urea doser functional monitor) fault code may show up during this test. 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential

Pass/Fail criteria A minimum length of 50 mm (2 in) of DEF must be directly above/adjacent to the dosing module inlet connector as shown below at the end of the priming sequence.

Summary – DEF Line Pressure Drop Items Discussed: Understand the importance of DEF pressure line routing Understand the AEB requirements for DEF pressure line routing Understand when the clear line test must be performed Have awareness of overall test procedure and equipment for DEF clear line test 9/20/2018 Cummins Confidential
