A Streetcar Named Desire – The Epigraph

'And so it was that I entered the broken world To trace the visionary company of love, its voice An instant in the wind (I know not whither hurled) But not for long to hold each desperate choice.' Hart Crane, The Broken Tower

Questions that came up… What is the broken world and why is it so? Does the poem relate to the central theme of the play? What are the desperate choices? What is meant by only traces of love, and love being short lasted? How does the poem fit into the play?

I could only guess what was meant by the poem extract and how it related to the play, but the answers came after I watched the movie and understood the plot and theme

What is the epigraph saying? Why is it effective? How well does it relate to the play?
