Existing Program

Potential Research Program OBJECTIVE A Research Plan that has several objectives: To document and guide the implementation of priority future actions for the conservation and management of the Night Parrot in Australia. To justify funding allocations for the priority research and monitoring actions. To guide future controlling provisions and potential research offset decisions in Australia. To inform the revision and/or development of Recovery Plans. Project 1 – Grey Literature Review & Knowledge Synthesis Project 2 – Development of Survey & Monitoring Guidelines Project 3 – Strategic Targeted Survey of BOO Localities Project 4 – Implementation of Monitoring Program Project 5 – Demographic & Ecological Studies

Opportunities to support research Fortescue Metal Group – Pilbara Iron Ore & Infrastructure Project: Cloud Break (No Beneficiation), (Ministerial Statement 721 – EPA Bulletin 1216) (2006) Provide funding to commence research programs into the Night Parrot (surveys only until techniques and adequate population found to enable studies, then research) Fortescue Metal Group - Cloudbreak Mine Expansion, Pilbara (EPBC No. 2010/5696) Night Parrot Research Plan ($1M implementation budget) Understanding ecology/biology Investigate and develop a repeatable survey methodology Conduct or fund comprehensive targeted surveys for the Night Parrot at three confirmed sites
