Q Aim: 12/ 5/ 2016 How did colonists protest unfair British actions? Why is the power to protest an important right in America today? When is it ok to protest? Q HOMEWORK: Quiz WED: Underlying Causes of the Revolution.

Protest in the Colonies: Sons of Liberty: secret society established by Samuel Adams to protest British taxes. PETITION: a formal declaration of one’s beliefs usually accompanied by a complaint or argument. People sign the document in agreement BOYCOTT: the refusal to conduct trade (buy and sell goods) with a country or business. A very effective form of protest in forcing change because it causes the country or business to lose profit. 2

Tarring and Feathering colonists attacked British tax collectors, smeared them with hot tar and stuck feathers to them. 3

Colonial Protest Activity In the years leading up the American Revolution, American colonists viewed British actions as increasingly unfair. These events are considered to be the underlying causes of the American Revolution. Your job is to lodge a complaint against unfair British policies. Identify a specific event and explain why you as a member of the Sons of Liberty find it to be unfair.
