NOTE!!!!! Before this change, Joe had 14 hours. Once he drops Calculus, he will be down to 10 hours, which is below the full-time student threshold of 12 hours. Joe should check with the Student Financial Assistance Office to see if this impacts any of his scholarships, grants, or other financial aid sources. He should also check with Residential Life to see if this impacts his ability to remain in the dorm. Since Joe is on the S&T football team, he will need to make sure he complies with applicable rules for athletes. He should also check with his medical insurance, car insurance, tax consultant, etc. to see if not being a full-time student has any impact. Joe also needs to evaluate the impact this will have on his future class schedules and his path to graduation.

NOTE!!!!! Joe should obtain the signature of the instructors associated with each component of a given class (lecture, recitation, lab, etc.) If a lab is a completely separate class, such as with Chem 1310 General Chemistry I and Chem 1319 General Chemistry Laboratory, Joe would need to check with the teaching department to determine if he drops the lecture if he is also required to drop the lab.

Freshman Engineering

Mrs. Green 01/25/2017

NOTE!!!!! All previous steps must be completed before Joe obtains his advisor’s signature. Once the form is completed, Joe needs to turn it in at the Registrar’s Office for processing. Fact to consider: Since Joe is a Missouri resident, he paid nearly $2,000 for this course he just dropped!!

Drop Dates Be aware of the various drop dates on the academic calendar: Prior to the start of the semester dropping can be done by the student via Joe’SS, and 100% refund will be given. Once the semester begins, the paper form must be completed. Until approximately 5 class days, only a 90% refund is available. Until approximately 10 class days, only a 70% refund is available. Until approximately 25 class days, only a 50% refund is available. After approximately 30 class days, a WD will be recorded on the transcript After approximately 12 weeks, it is no longer possible to drop a course. The student will receive the grade earned. For classes with a duration other than the full semester, the student should check with the instructor as the drop date, etc. will vary from the norm. Certain sections of Math 1140 College Algebra and Math 1160 Trigonometry are examples of this.
